Job description

About Fresh is looking toward an intensive period of capacity building and program development over the next 18-months to support sustained growth starting in 2022. The board and CEO are looking for a mission-focused, strategic, and process-minded leader with deep experience managing teams to achieve program effectiveness across multiple programs. The CPO will inspire the About Fresh team to be efficient and effective while nurturing the creativity that has sparked the development of About Fresh programs.

 

Organizational Leadership

  • Share responsibility with About Fresh CEO and board of directors to define organizational goals, strategy, and budget 
  • Provide an effective and inspiring day-to-day leadership presence for all staff fostering a cohesive organizational culture across departments
  • Foster a high-performance culture characterized by service leadership, collaboration, and transparency that results in strong team morale, effective talent utilization, and collaboration across programs
  • Design and implement new systems and resources for hiring, training, development, compensation, and benefits; instilling a culture of professional development and “coaching”

Program Development

  • Provide organizational leadership and subject matter expertise on the food as medicine movement, food as a social determinant of health, food justice, and health equity
  • Collaborate with About Fresh Program Directors to set program strategy, develop implementation plans, and allocate resources to execute strategic initiatives 
  • Build and maintain external relationships to support program development and stakeholder engagement including healthcare institutions, grocery retailers, government and social service agencies, and other key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Program Directors to design and implement systems for monitoring and evaluation of program effectiveness and impact

Financial Management

  • Oversee program budgets and financial reporting
  • Ownership over key vendor relationships to support Fresh Truck mobile market operations and Fresh Connect software development 

Technology

  • Collaborate with About Fresh advisers to analyze the current technology infrastructure and scope out the next level of information technology and financial systems that support the growth of Fresh Connect and the organization overall
  • Collaborate with About Fresh advisers to develop specifications for technology build-outs
  • Collaborate with About Fresh advisers and Fresh Connect program director to oversee the build-out of the Fresh Connect software platform

Who you are 

  • 8-10 years of experience working in a programming/ operations role within a cause-driven organization driving program effectiveness
  • Previous experience in one or more of the following areas:  health care, public health, food systems, grocery retail or startups 
  • A service leader with a passion for nurturing personal and professional development in others; experience building an organizational culture
  • Experience developing and implementing systems for monitoring and evaluating programs
  • A community organizer at heart, someone who understands the value of building and nurturing program relationships
  • Poses the cultural and social competency to work across a diverse array of teammates, partners, and communities
  • A structured thinker with a goal-oriented approach toward program management and evaluation
  • Basic competency in technology platforms and willingness to learn/ adopt new technology
  • Longterm experience living and working in Boston a plus
