Seeking Experienced Organic Vegetable Gardener for an innovative, eco-friendly, community-minded, sustainable cooperative in San Diego County.

Description
Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled edible gardening duties using organic practices, in the care of multiple gardens, for an urban sharecrop community at private homes throughout San Diego County.

Job functions include but not limited to:
  • installing, maintaining and repairing raised beds gardens and irrigation systems,
  • operating a variety of gardening maintenance equipment and tools, in accordance with organic guidelines,
  • fertilizing, planting, and harvesting fruits and vegetables for distribution to shareholders and community partners.
     
Required Skills
*  In-depth knowledge and experience in planning and implementing organic vegetable and fruit tree gardening techniques for San Diego's climate including:
installation of raised-beds and irrigation systems, soil testing,
plant propagation, seedling care, transplanting, weeding, watering, pruning, harvesting, and fertility management;
pest control and plant health, observation, monitoring, and care.
*  Knowledge of tool and worksite safety and ability to teach others.
*  Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
*  Ability to interface with garden homeowners and foster healthy relationships.
*  Possess ability to work with student interns or garden volunteers when available.
 
Physical Requirements
(Qualified candidates must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform the primary functions of the position
with or without reasonable accommodation.)
* Exposure to heat or cold.
* Ability to lift and carry up to sixty (60) pounds.
* Pushing and pulling motions using dollies, hand trucks, and wheel barrels.
* Ability to use garden and landscaping tools such as shovels, rakes, or hand tools for digging, moving prepping garden beds, and planting.
* Hours vary.
 
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years experience in production growing including organic farming, gardening, and/or horticulture.
  • Priority is given to those with experience, their own vehicle and a valid California Driver's License.
     
Pay Rate
$15 -23.00 per Hour, DOE
