Company description

We're not a company we're a family of 5!

We are two adults (one flexible, food-appreciating omnivore and one vegetarian with very particular preferences) and three children, ages 2, 4 & 6 who range from eats-everything to eats-only-hot-dog-buns, chicken tikka masala and anything with chocolate. Pasta, Pho & Indian are favorites.

We have a spacious, well-equipped kitchen, with induction range, dishwasher, prep and dishwashing sinks. Our garden is still in development and will contain 4 - 3.5’x8’ irrigated raised beds, approximately 10 fruit trees and has additional space for berries, herbs, ground level planting, and dedicated children’s gardening.

Job description Do you love cooking for, and with children? Do you think to yourself, why would I plant a tree that only grows leaves? Can you think of five different things to do with a pile of browning bananas? Do you love being in a kitchen, but also wish you could spend more time outside? Have you ever puzzled over how to make brownies a complete meal? Then this could be the job for you!

Easy-going, but busy family of five is seeking a full-time personal chef & micro-farmer to cook dinners, maintain a kitchen garden and fill their time with other creative culinary tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Meal planning, preparation & clean up of healthy kid and adult-friendly dinners 4-5 nights per week for the family & possible additional guests (with notice).
  • Prepping items the family can easily prepare for themselves other nights.
  • Preparing snacks and to-go lunch items like salads or soups.
  • Grocery shopping for meals and other family staples.
  • Integration of farm shares and other sustainable food sourcing into the family’s diet.
  • Planning and maintenance of a kitchen garden and integration of the produce into the family’s meals.
  • Integrating the children of the household into the gardening and culinary activities through both planned projects and informal invitations to help. However we do not expect this person to be home alone with children.
  • Minimize household food waste.
  • General kitchen management (organizing the kitchen, emptying the dishwasher, keeping the fridge clean).

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and use time efficiently and creatively.
  • Experience planning and preparing meals to a schedule. Professional culinary experience preferred but not required.
  • Creative menu planning and flexibility to use what is in season.
  • Love of gardening. Interest in learning about Northern California seasonal planting and maintaining an organic vegetable garden. Experience preferred.

  • Flexibility to work additional hours to help with special events such as birthday parties a plus.
  • This is a position in a household with young children so we are also looking for someone who is willing to stay up to date on vaccinations and to agree to a background check.

Compensation:

  • 30-40 hours a week, $25-45/ hr DOE with a guaranteed minimum number of hours or we can structure compensation as a salary; paid vacation; health insurance or stipend
  • Flexible schedule TBD based on family needs and employee preferences
