Key Areas of Responsibility

The Entrepreneurship Development Coordinator oversees all activities related to the Ashland Market & Cafe; supports MP’s business development efforts by facilitating workshops and advising sessions; oversees sales channels & event logistics; and supports marketing & outreach efforts. MP’s business advising efforts focus on supporting food-based entrepreneurs, however, programming often includes non-food entrepreneurs that meet eligibility criteria.

The Entrepreneurship Development Coordinator is a self-motivated individual with strong project management skills and a robust capacity to navigate a diverse array of stakeholders and relationships - moving from representing MP at agency or practitioner convenings to communicating thoughtfully and consistently with program participants. This position requires a comfort and fluency in group facilitation, one-on-one advising, and providing culturally relevant and accessible resources. Experience in food and food business operations is preferred. This position includes monthly weekend and occasional evening commitments.

 

Ashland Market & Cafe (AMC) (40%)

  • Ensure long term viability of AMC and development of AMC incubated businesses
  • Point person for AMC vendors; lead advisor; coordinate monthly AMC vendor meetings
  • Lead events & marketing activities that drive traffic to AMC
  • Oversee business development workshops and community events at AMC
  • Oversee branding, marketing, and communications related to AMC 

Mandela Entrepreneurs Program (40%)

  • Workshop Series: manage participant outreach & workshop related logistics; ensure current & relevant curriculum; co-facilitate workshops (bi-annual)
  • Advising: on-board entrepreneurs; provide top tier advising; oversee individual entrepreneur development plans
  • Capital: on-board and support entrepreneurs interested in accessible capital options available through or in partnership with Mandela Partners. 
  • Market & Sales Opportunities: manage current market (JLS) including partnership, permitting, participant recruitment, and other related logistics
  • Grow partnership with organizations throughout the East Bay that support limited communities, under-served entrepreneurs, or other community development efforts
  • Promote Mandela programming 
  • Promote and stay up-to-date with relevant business development resources; create resource guides that support community entrepreneurs

Management, Evaluation, and Reporting (10%) 

  • Staff support: provide management & support to business development team; weekly check ins; program milestones
  • Metrics: maintain MPs entrepreneur database; administer and maintain evaluations systems for business development programs (i.e. intake, pre and post surveys, quarterly AMC surveys, etc)

Other Program & Organization Support  (10%) 

  • Community Capital: support loan communications, management, and reporting
  • Marketing: support MPs social media management, website design and content development, newsletter development, etc
  • Provide other program & organizational support, as needed

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Commitment to working with and in low to moderate income communities of color
  • Ability to interact comfortably with a broad range of people and backgrounds; strong capacity to connect with program participants and building relationships
  • Strong grasp of tools & resources entrepreneurs need to start, operate, or grow their businesses
  • 3+ years’ experience in food production and food retail, preferred
  • 3+ years’ experience in non-profit program coordination, management, and/or administration
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Time management skills, work planning, and attention to detail
  • Flexible and team-oriented approach to problem-solving
  • Willingness to travel to meet entrepreneurs in their settings
  • Interest in growing with a dynamic organization
  • Bilingual a plus
