About the Position:

The Greene Grape is currently looking to fill part and full time positions on our Butcher & Fishmonger team. We are in need of an experienced butcher and fishmonger to help customers and assist our team. You must be willing to work weekends and some holidays and have a willingness to be flexible with hours. In addition to being friendly and personable with both customers and co-workers.  Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills is key!

We are a neighborhood grocer deeply rooted in the Fort Greene community and the community we have created through our customers, employees, vendors and friends.

Our meat & seafood department practices whole animal butchery and sustainable fishery. Our animals are grass fed and pasture raised. The farms we work with are chosen based on quality, commitment to regenerative agriculture, and humane handling practices. We believe that locality and quality go hand in hand- from pasture to Provisions; the entire supply chain is no more than 300 miles long. We work with farmers in NJ, NY, PA & VT. When it comes to fish there’s no fishy business here! We believe that a sustainable seafood system depends on well-informed consumers and responsible purveyors. 

 

Requirements & Responsibilities:

  • Experienced working with nose to tail butchery (more than a year experience). Able to breakdown whole animals into retail cuts. 
  • Passionate about quality foods
  • Ability to lift at least 80lbs is required
  • Make sausages, grind meats, patty burgers 
  • Be affable and engaging with customers and be able to recommend alternatives
  • Receive and unload deliveries almost daily
  • Know how to style a tantalizing meat & seafood case
  • Organizing and keeping the walk-ins clean
