Wholesale & Packaging Nutty Steph's

  • Date Posted October 11, 2019
  • Location Montpelier, VT
  • Category Business / Production
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description We are a worker owned chocolate company in the heart of Vermont, using high quality cocoa beans that return a good wage to Central American farmers. Recently we have grown and become two locations, and we intend to slowly grow into a national urban chain of small chocolate factory community centers. We curiously, obsessively source our favorite local maple syrup, maple sugar, fresh cream, butter, goat milk caramel and connections.

Our owners are politically active, taking part in local government around progressive food and workplace legislation.  Our workplace environment is warm, inclusive, productive and sometimes irreverent.  We expect everyone to do their best, to be truly connected to their work, and to communicate well with others.  In exchange, we offer equal profit sharing among all owners, an educational 2-year track to ownership eligibility for all workers, and a "Euro-style" vacation benefit designed to encourage the personal, individual development of long term teammates. We seek the involvement of those interested in participating in the organization as slow-buy-in worker owners. What is required is NOT a large financial infusion, but rather a willingness to adopt a full accountability to the profitability of the organization and the willingness to learn and study the patterns of the business that lead to financial gain for all workers. Ideal candidates may never have owned a business but are interested in doing so! Job description Morning at the Desk
Acquaint yourself with our small and powerful collection of wholesale customers, most of whom we have served for over a decade, and nurture them with predictable order fulfillment as you service incoming orders from these (approximately 75) local independent grocers. Learn the nuances of each account, how to maximize and best fill the weekly orders for each one. Skillfully navigate the issue related to a small manufacturing and wholesale business like product shortages, special customer requests, new product rollouts, website orders, shipping labels and returns. This job does not require an outgoing "sales" personality, (although that is welcome.) Eligible candidates will have a mastery of detail-orientation and logistics comprehension.

Afternoon on The Scale
After printing out our wholesale and web orders for the day, you'll identify what should get packaged for the rest of the day, based on a variety of factors, including any product the shipper may need to fill the day's orders. New packagers become part of a diverse group of other packagers that work independently at scattered times on various product lines, self-navigating the packaging needs of the company at a given time, sometimes liaising with each other, and often working with the Shopkeepers on where to put newly packaged product out on display.

Ideal candidates will possess:
- Basic operating knowledge of quickbooks, gmail, Dropbox, Google Drive, Shipstation, Shopify

- Experience in good food manufacturing and wholesale

- History of participation in cooperatives; Knowledge of coop governance structures, facilitation, autonomous practices, self-managing systems

- Punctuality and strong aptitude for routine. Good boundaries around computer time.

- Willingness to learn and grow in the above objectives!
