Farm Apprentice Fernbrook Farm CSA

  • Date Posted October 10, 2019
  • Location Chesterfield, NJ
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Part-Time
Company description Fernbrook Farms is a 250 acre preserved farm in Chesterfield, NJ that features a historic Inn, wholesale tree nursery, environmental education center and a CSA.  The CSA was established in 2007 and serves over 400 families.  We also are involved in farm markets, restaurant sales, a winter share and pastured pork production.  The CSA operates as a 'chemical-free' farm dedicated to diversity of crops and utilizing soil-building techniques.  We have had the privilege of training over 30 Farm Apprentices since we started and we are excited to bring in some new candidates for the 2020 farm season! Internship description We are looking for hard-working, energetic candidates to join our 2020 farm crew.  We have had over 30 Apprentices work, learn and grow at Fernbrook since 2007 and many of them are currently farming, or working in agriculture.  We have formed an amazing network of Fernbrook 'grads' who are farming all across the country.   Running a diverse, chemical-free farm is complex in many ways.  To truly learn the craft you have to be involved in running a farm.

Our Apprentices are involved in all aspects of farming.  Greenhouse work, seeding, planting, harvesting, operating tractors, staffing the farmshop and markets, tending to livestock, irrigating, equipment and buildings and ground maintenance and so on.  We are also one of the founding members of NJCRAFT - Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training.  CRAFT involves 30 plus farms in NJ and eastern PA to provide beginner farmers with opportunities to visit other farms, learn from other growers and be a part of a network of young and beginner farmers.   We also send Apprentices to the NOFA Summer conference in August in Massachusetts.

Fernbrook is a bustling, energetic, vibrant farm with a lot of great people and diversity of habitat.  It is a great place to spend time learning the craft of sustainable farming! Compensation this position is : stipend / non-monetary compensation
Details: The farm provides a monthly stipend, housing, utilities, produce and pork from the farm, a store credit and paid educational opportunities Application instructions
