Company description

Vibrant Valley Farm is heading into its eighth full season as a women owned and operated Vegetable, Flower and Indigo Farm. Our farm is located on Sauvie Island, just 10 miles outside of Portland and home to one of the state’s largest wildlife refuges. This past year we successfully ran a 7 acre operation providing produce to over 30 restaurants in the Portland area, weekly hauls of fresh flowers to the Oregon Flower Growers Association, Wedding design and DIY bucket services, and hosted over 100 people in indigo dye classes and are actively working on more dye production and demonstration plots for natural fibers.

 

Job description

We are actively seeking three full time farmers (2-40hr/wk, 1-45-50hr/wk) to assist in our production and assembly from March - end of December. We are looking for hard working folks that have at least three years of experience on production farms and are eager to learn and are dedicated to the local food system through growing food and flowers.

Experience, team work, willingness to learn, adaptability, customer service, a strong work ethic, and belief in sustainable practices are prerequisites for any applicant and essential to the success of our operation.

 

Responsibilities and Skills Necessary

  • Strong physical labor skills (e.g. squat, sit, stand, bend, lift, walk, carry)

• Working knowledge of organic gardening and farming methods

• Demonstrated ability to both follow and give directions, seek assistance and communicate clearly

• Ability to work early morning hours, evening hours and weekends; in all weather conditions

• Ability to work well with others while completing the tasks given

  • Ability to work with community partners and engage in educational programming and community outreach when appropriate
  • Organized and willing to take on office tasks and field tasks interchangeably.
  • Good attitude and can take instruction and be flexible

 

 

Compensation this position is : hourly, varies DOE, $14.00 - $17.00 Application instructions
