In spring of 2004, Blue Hill at Stone Barns opened within the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in Pocantico Hills, New York. The Barbers helped create the philosophical and practical framework for Stone Barns Center, a working four-season farm and educational center just 30 miles north of New York City, and continue to help guide it in its mission to create a consciousness about the effect of everyday food choices.

 

Internship description

Position: Summer Research Intern

Location: This position is based out of Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Tarrytown (4 - 5) days per week.

Reports To: Vice President, Blue Hill and Blue Hill at Stone Barns

Position Summary: Blue Hill at Stone Barns is seeking full-time summer (35 - 40 hours per week) research interns for a minimum of 8 consecutive weeks and up to 12 weeks in 2020.
 

Job Requirements:

  • Multidisciplinary undergraduates currently enrolled in junior or senior years, and those pursuing food and/or farming systems focused graduate programs will be given preference. 
  • Students who are knowledgeable and committed to exploring the intersection between a regenerative food and farming culture.
  • Exceptional research, problem-solving, organization and communication skills.
  • Capacity to learn quickly and execute accurately.
  • Able to multitask in discrete time periods.
  • Attention to detail; demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness in work product.
  • The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow oral instructions and procedures.

Job Duties:

  • Interns will collaborate on research projects in all aspects of Blue Hill and Stone Barns Center’s food and farming operations, culinary and agricultural history, data collection, and media.
  • Interns will have an opportunity to participate in select workshops, classes and field trips.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Non-exempt, hourly wage
  • Blue Hill will provide educational materials at no cost, select field trips and scheduled meals at Blue Hill Cafe and Blue Hill at Stone Barns.
