Roles and Responsibilities of Keys to Abundant Life Team Members
Culinary instructor
Principal duties and responsibilities
-Create lesson plans, as necessary.
-Teach participants nutrition tips and run healthy, interactive cooking classes
-Take attendance of each participant before the workshop/lesson/class is completed.
-Support the creation of Keys’ curriculum.
-Model respect and curiosity for learning.
-Encourage students’ interests and talents.
-Ensure that ingredients are properly prepped for classes based on use in recipe and age-appropriateness of class.
-Maintain equipment, paper goods, cleaning supplies and ingredients for all classes.
-Ensure that all necessary ingredients are purchased in a timely fashion for classes.
-Code receipts and maintain budget for all cooking classes.
-Ensure that all ingredients are proper handled and stored for food safety.
-Ensure that daily kitchen maintenance and special cleaning projects are complete and participate in those tasks as time and priorities allow.
-Maintain teaching kitchen facilities and equipment in good working order.
-Support all culinary-related events and activities.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Culinary degree or certificate required.
- Certification or extensive knowledge of nutrition required.
- Successful experience running a kitchen, overseeing staff, and creating recipes.
- Successful, positive experience teaching elementary-, middle-, and/or high- school aged students required.
- Must have experience teaching cooking classes strongly preferred.
- Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Access to/Own a working vehicle.
- Must be fingerprinted with the NYC Department of Education or be willing.
- Must have liability insurance, if paid as a contractor.
- Highly motivated and creative
- Excellent communication skills

- Must have good writing skills
- Must be dependable and consistent
- Great behavior management skills
- Must be able to conduct self in a professional manner at all times in the workplace
- Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages, a plus.
- Knowledge of MS Word and other computer programs
