  • Job type Full-Time
Company description Bon Appétit Management Company is an on-site restaurant company offering full food-service management to corporations, universities, museums, and specialty venues. Based in Palo Alto, CA, we operate more than 1000 cafés in 33 states for dozens of marquee clients. Our food is cooked from scratch, including sauces, stocks, and soups. A pioneer in environmentally sound sourcing policies, we've developed programs addressing local purchasing, overuse of antibiotics, sustainable seafood, the food-climate change connection, humanely raised meat and eggs, and farmworker rights. Job description Fellows focus on raising awareness about social and environmental issues related to the food system at Bon Appétit accounts in his/her region, and serve as a resource to Bon Appetit chefs, managers and guests interested in understanding or strengthening sustainability related programs and/or launching new initiatives in their cafes. Chosen individuals will engage creatively with Bon Appétit campus communities: generating interest in food and sustainability issues and communicating Bon Appétit policies through farm visits, guest lectures, educational events and assistance with the implementation of sustainability-related programs.

Between campus visits, Fellows perform research to inform innovative programs that help maintain the company’s position as a leader in sustainability. The projects for this position are constantly changing, but past projects have included: reducing food waste, defining fair farm labor, creating a network of student gardeners and farmers at colleges around the country, providing support and resources to students interested in running the Real Food Calculator, and starting food recovery programs.

Fellowships are intended as an opportunity for recent college graduates of campuses that are served by Bon Appétit. The strongest candidates are those whom are active in sustainability issues during their time on campus and want to share knowledge of agricultural issues and the subject of sustainability in the food industry.

The Fellowship is generally a one year position with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement. The chosen applicant(s) will work remotely from their choice of location within an assigned region. When applying, please attach both a resume and cover letter, and indicate your desired location(s) from the following list, in order of preference: Atlanta, Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, D.C., Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Portland (OR), and/or the San Francisco Bay area.
