At the ten-acre Hilton Bialek Habitat in Carmel Valley, California, we provide hands-on, experiential learning opportunities to schools, county agencies, partner nonprofits, local businesses, and interested citizens throughout Monterey County. This nationally recognized outdoor learning center includes extensive grasslands, bird habitat, monarch butterfly habitat, a pond, an outdoor amphitheater, a LEED-certified culinary classroom, outdoor kitchen with wood-fired oven, organic vegetable and herb gardens, heirloom fruit orchard, off-grid solar greenhouse, and native plant nursery. Position Overview:

MEarth invites you to join our team in meeting our mission of educating and inspiring through environmental stewardship! MEarth’s Program Director position offers a diverse and rewarding experience with lots of room for personal growth and challenge.  And, you’ll be working with a dedicated, enthusiastic team that is truly making a positive difference in our community!

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Coordination, Oversight and Management of MEarth’s four core programs: ClassroomConnect, FoodConnect, NatureConnect and CommunityConnect, including Program Scheduling, Program Content and Curriculum Development, Program Staff Supervision and Management, Program Financial Oversight, Grant Deliverable Tracking, Grant Reporting, Evaluation + Data Collection, Partnership Development and Program Expansion, Volunteer Oversight, Fund Development, and playing a leadership role in orchestrating MEarth Events and Fundraisers. 

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Educational Requirement:  Minimum Education of B.A. or B.S. in related field. 
  • Experience Required: A minimum of three to five years of professional experience managing teams, facilitating, developing and delivering standards-based K-12 educational programming, classroom management, and community partnership development.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Excellent time-management skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work well with youth, peers, teachers, volunteers, interns, etc. in a wide range of situations.
  • Demonstrated skill and expertise in accomplishing work-related tasks with accuracy, precision, neatness and completeness, both in quality and in quantity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in accomplishing work-related responsibilities, including methods, materials, tools, equipment, and fundamental subject matter.
  • Effective and efficient work habits including organization, punctuality and dependability, industry, and good practices of both vehicle and personal safety.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team setting, as well as working independently.
  • Able to manage a fast-paced work environment with regular interruption, and multiple project deadlines.
  • Able to maintain friendly, cooperative, and effective working relationships with all persons contacted in the course of work.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and enthusiasm for work, willingness to conform to job requirements, and ability to adapt to change.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, promptness of action, and sound decision making.
  • High proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Neon CRM, Harvest time-tracking and other software.
  • Experience managing volunteers.
  • Experience managing large events and fundraisers. 
  • Strong database management skills. 
  • Bilingual is a plus!

 

Working Conditions:

The working environment is subject to bending, crouching, or kneeling to access information and/or to assist students from ground level to 4.5 feet above the ground, pushing, pulling and lifting of instructional equipment and supplies, sitting on chairs or on the floor, leaning over for prolonged periods of time, reaching in all directions, and working outdoors for prolonged periods of time.
