Job description

The Produce Manager position at Riverwards Produce takes ownership and initiative of the produce department. They work with the Store Manager and COO to set department priorities, practices, and systems. They serve as the primary executor of buying plans, and delegate buying and inventory duties to Produce team members. In collaboration with the Produce team, the Produce Manager maintains well-stocked, obsessively clean produce displays, receives and processes incoming produce, organizes produce back stock, and performs regularly scheduled cleanings. They have an expert knowledge of produce and produce uses and can help customers and staff with inquiries and suggestions.

 

They coordinate frequently with the Store Manager, Merchandiser, and the COO to ensure proper staffing, product variance, store cleanliness, and aesthetic coherence.

 

Reports to: Store Manager

Directly Manages: Produce team members

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the purchase and procurement of daily produce orders
  • Communicate with vendors, and obtain credits when necessary.
  • Collaborate with Merchandiser to set floor display aesthetics and product variety
  • Create and maintain training materials for the Produce department
  • Create and maintain operational workflow tools for Produce team members
  • Ensure that all produce items are properly entered into the POS system and available for purchase
  • Ensure that all produce item prices and costs reflect current market value
  • Create and iterate on Produce department receiving and inventory systems
  • Work with the Store Manager to conduct regular department meetings
  • Serve as the primary point person for vendor relations at the PWPM
 

Requirements:

  • Experience receiving, processing, and merchandising produce in a retail setting 
  • Punctual, detail-oriented, and an early riser
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and spend 8+ hours standing and walking up and down stairs
  • Passion for the principles of sustainable food and farming
  • Flexibility in scheduling, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • A diligent approach to safety and sanitation. ServSafe (or analogous) certification a plus
  • A team player with a willingness to jump in and help with all tasks. A self-starter and hard-worker
  • Ability to roll with the punches of a rapidly growing start-up business
Compensation this position is : hourly, $15/hr + Application instructions
