Job description

Chef Instructor

Summary of position: As a Recreational Program Chef Instructor, you will be expected to help manage every aspect of a recreational cooking class (product, curriculum, etc.) and help to ensure the success of each class. The Chef Instructor will practice food safety and sanitation guidelines and operate according to all HACCP guidelines. An important component of your position will be as an Ambassador of Cook Street and the Recreational Culinary program. You will be expected to participate in various media events and demonstrations and media training will be provided to you. Cook Street is seeking a strong charismatic presence to help communicate what Cook Street is about and how we contribute to the culinary community.

Instructional: All culinary programs and courses taught at Cook Street (including recreational programs and private events) by Cook Street Chef Instructors rely heavily on the institution’s preferred instructional methodology of a “hands-on” approach to culinary training, with an emphasis on skill set development, culinary theory and organization and (when applicable) an understanding of European culture and cuisine.

  1.  Reviews all written material in conjunction with the Chef de Cuisine or Sous Chef prior to class and consolidates mise en place to insure that all Recreational classes and events will run smoothly. 
  2.  Follows and if needed, submits revisions of instructional timelines for each class to insure proper instruction is met and a timely schedule is followed.
  3.  Confidently leads all activity related to class or event, from timeline initiation, to set up and execution.
  4.  Is encouraged to contribute to content for any new Recreational class, including a teaching timeline, menus, food order guides and a food cost analysis before said classes are made public. Seeks counsel from the Chef de Cuisine regarding class material content, product and schedule.
  5.  Reviews student class evaluations and seeks to resolve complaints and improve curriculum.
  6.  Works in conjunction with other Chef Instructors or Assistant Chef Instructors to execute recreational class or private event.

 

Compensation this position is : hourly, $15/hr + Application instructions
