Greenmarket's mission is to promote regional agriculture and ensure a continuing supply of fresh local produce for New Yorkers. Greenmarket supports farmers and preserves farmland for the future by providing regional, small family farmers with opportunities to sell their fruits, vegetables and other farm products to New Yorkers.

 

Job description

Greenmarket Regional Coordinators oversee 12-18 Greenmarkets within New York City’s five boroughs, supervise Market Managers, provide continuity from one year to the next for both Greenmarket Producers and community partners, and help ensure Greenmarket builds on its efforts each year.

 

The ideal candidate for this position has personnel and project management experience, as well as an ability to problem solve, sometimes multiple issues at once, while maintaining a level head. This position requires time management, resourcefulness and flexibility, organization, and communication skills. A working knowledge of farmers markets, sustainable food systems, and farming are ideal, but not required. A working knowledge of Spanish, or another non-English language, is preferable.

 

Regional Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

Market Operations

  • Ensure the safety and viability of the markets within the Regional Coordinator’s designated region.
  • With the Greenmarket Operations Manager, develop Market Plans for each individual market.
  • Determine market layouts, keeping community needs in mind and recognizing necessary site restrictions.
  • Provide consistent rules enforcement across markets.
  • With the Operations Manager and Greenmarket Director, determine Producer market assignments and reservations.
  • Communicate and be available as the point-of-contact for Greenmarket Producers.
  • Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with market managers, as well as check-ins at market.
  • Provide immediate support for Market Managers dealing with a market issue or emergency.
  • Ensure markets are fully staffed and provide coverage.
  • Read Market Reports and track Market Manager time sheets.
  • Track the distribution and collection of various permits.
  • Oversee the schedule, use, operation, and maintenance of Greenmarket vehicles.

 

Market Promotions

  • Assist Market Managers in creating a market outreach and promotion plan and oversee its implementation.
  • Identify, forge, and maintain beneficial relationships with community partners – including local business, like-minded organizations, and city agencies.
  • Oversee use of social media.

 

SNAP/EBT and Food Access

  • Work with Greenmarket’s Healthy Exchange Project (HEX) to ensure smooth SNAP/EBT operations at market.
  • Oversee sales and redemptions at market and enforce accurate accounting of all market currencies.
  • Ensure markets are stocked with sufficient HEX signage and materials.
  • Ensure HEX promotion is incorporated into market outreach plan and social media promotions.

 

Shared Responsibilities

  • Participate in Market Manager hiring and training process.
  • Participate in Producer market assignments process.
  • Evaluate market product balance and recommend additions where necessary.
  • Prepare and conduct Market Manager evaluations.
  • Coordinate, distribute, and maintain market equipment.
