Portland Edible Gardens (www.portlandediblegardens.com) helps people grow food at their homes in the Portland metro area.  We support our clients by building custom raised garden beds and other edible garden infrastructure at their homes, as well as providing vegetable garden mentorship and maintenance services.  We work with a wide range of gardeners from total beginners to long-time growers in order to help them meet their edible gardening goals.

Job description

Portland Edible Gardens is seeking a qualified Garden Project Installation Leader to oversee and implement a wide range of raised garden bed installation projects for our clients.  The Installation Leader will be in charge of preparation of materials prior to installation, site preparation including sod removal and grading and leveling of terrain, assembly of garden beds, hauling of debris and vegetation, installation of soil into finished garden beds, and installation of drip irrigation systems, as well as a wide range of other landscape installation tasks.  

This position requires both excellent leadership qualities and proficiency in a wide range of highly physical landscaping tasks.  

This is not a gardening/horticulture position.  All planting activities are implemented separately by other PEG staff.

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Cutting and preparation of materials for garden bed construction in PEG woodshop
  • Removal of sod, soil, plants, and debris from job site prior to installation
  • Grading and leveling of terrain prior to raised bed installation
  • Construction of raised garden beds on-site
  • Installation of irrigation delivery lines (including trenching)
  • Installation of drip irrigation lines, and other irrigation infrastructure
  • Loading soil into raised garden beds and planting areas at residences
  • Spreading mulch, gravel, and other organic materials 
  • Maintaining/organizing/cleaning of work spaces
  • Misc. landscaping, logistical, administrative tasks 

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of landscape installation techniques
  • Basic carpentry skills
  • Garden design experience
  • Familiarity with drip irrigation systems

 

 

Compensation this position is : hourly, $15/hr + Application instructions
