The Produce Associate Category Merchant is responsible for managing FreshDirect's produce assortment through sourcing/buying and merchandising. We are looking for an individual to drive category growth and margin through assortment planning, vendor negotiations, storefront merchandising, inventory management, and procurement.  This role requires a pro-active, flexible, professional that quickly learns new roles and has experience troubleshooting and improving processes.

• Owns category strategy and procurement of product for assigned sub-categories, monitors and replenishes inventory, managing margin, and scrap
• Develop and execute optimal category strategy, product assortment, pricing, promotions, and merchandising plans
• Partners with cross-functional teams on quality & inventory levels while managing aging inventory by ensuring efficient inventory flows
• Work with existing vendor base to negotiate terms, develop new programs, and ensure efficient high-quality operational output
• Perform category reviews with vendors to improve quality, lower complaints, and lower cost
• Perform financial and operational analysis of business categories and provide insights of sales, pricing, complaints, and other ongoing opportunities to grow the business
• Oversee initial product set-up all the way through operations

Key ingredients:

• Bachelor's degree in related discipline and/or sufficient experience
• Works well in a team and has excellent communication skills
• Two plus (2+) years procurement and/or merchandising experience including experience with perishable product
• Food industry knowledge and passion for food
• Proficient in Excel / MS Office suite
• Financially and analytically savvy
• Can multitask and work well under pressure
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and changing the environment
• Knowledge of SAP or WMS platforms a plus
