Company description Valley Shepherd Creamery produces a large variety of cave aged, artisan cheeses and yogurts which are sold to the public and to major retailers in the tri-state area.  Our own shops are at the farm and at the new Essex Market in the LES.

Valley Shepherd Creamery is hiring! A full time position is available at our cheese counter in Essex Street Market in Manhattan’s lower east side.

We are known for our small batch artisanal sheep, goat and cow milk cheeses, yogurts, butter and more, all made on our farm in Long Valley, New Jersey. In addition to our own products we offer an incredible selection of other delicious domestic and foreign cheeses, as well as meats, crackers, jams, sandwiches etc...

About you:

• You have previous experience in cheese and/or specialty foods, and are passionate about cheeses and good food in general. You have an insatiable appetite for learning new things, and a sense of precision and detail that allows you to delve deeper than most into the task at hand.
•  You are at ease in a retail environment, are good with words, and are friendly and courteous. You offer great service and leave customers wanting to come back.
•  You are a team player, and communicate openly and easily with staff and management.
•  You are a responsible person. You get to work on time, and are available evenings (until 8).
•  You are comfortable on your feet for 8 hours or more, and are able to lift 40+ pounds.

 

About the job:

• You help us ensure the freshness, quality, and visual appeal of the cheese case. You restock, rotate, and face products as needed, and keep your work station clean.
•  You cut, wrap, and weigh cheeses for our customers. Through your knowledge of our products you help our customer base grow, discover new cheeses and pairings.
•  You make sandwiches, and are able to work quickly and keep track of multiple orders.
