Company description 5 Spoke Creamery produces raw milk artisnial cheeses on our dairy farm in the Hudson Valley, just one hour north of New York City. 

Our cheeses are sold at specialty retailers and found on the menus of top restaurants across the country. Our mission is to combine environmentally sound practices with traditional cheese making techniques to produce high quality raw milk cheeses capable of competing with the best cheeses made in the United States.  In keeping with our mission, we are 100% solar powered and are the test site for an energy storage system that lets users be  completely off the grid.

Work side by side with our cheese makers throughout the entire cheese make process as well as get hands on experience in affinage in our below ground aging room.
 

Applicant will also help cheesemakers with sanitation and record keeping  in accordance with food safety practices. Other responsibilties may include cutting and wrapping cheese for sale.

The right applicant has the opportunity to grow into the position of full time cheesemaker.

Qualifications

• Because cheese making is physically demanding, you need to be able to lift at least 45 pounds, repetitively. Also need to be able to stand on your feet for several hours at a time when working in the cheesemaking room.
• Attention to details/ability to follow multiple steps is critical
• Ability to accurately follow "manufacturer's instructions" for preparing solutions used to sanitize equipment 
• Flexibility/willingness to wear several hats and pitch in wherever needed is necessary.  
• Appreciation of great cheese would be terrific
• Commitment to sustainability is a plus
• College degree or some college is preferred, but not required
