Crew Member Berry Brook Farm

  • Date Posted January 31, 2020
  • Location Hamden, NY
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description

Berry Brook Farm is owned and operated by Eleanor Blakeslee and Patrick Hennebery. We grow certified organic produce of exceptional quality year round on about 6 acres in the beautiful Western Catskill Mountains of New York (3 hours NW of NYC). The majority of our sales come from farmers' markets, with additional sales from a cooperative CSA in NYC and to local stores and restaurants.

The work environment at Berry Brook Farm is fun-loving and hard-working. Crew Members can learn all they want to know about starting a successful farm on a shoe-string. Our ultimate goals are to continue to grow top quality produce, to provide a respectable living in agriculture for ourselves and our employees, and to contribute to the bright future of organic farming in New York.

Job description CREW MEMBERS

We have full- and part-time Crew Member positions available. The full-time position includes a 40-hour work week. Pay is commensurate with experience but at least $12 per hour. The part-time position has negotiable hours but we ask that part-time crew members maintain the same work schedule from week to week. Positions start in April and go through November, though work through December is available if desired.

Crew members participate in most aspects of the farm including all greenhouse work, field work, harvesting, washing and packing, and delivering.

The Ideal Candidate:

- Is self-motivated to work quickly and efficiently

- Has good communication skills

- Has good attention to detail

- Can work all day doing both physically demanding and sometimes tedious tasks often in unpleasant weather

- Is reliable

- Can maintain a pleasant attitude while at work

Delaware County has a burgeoning beginning farmer scene and it's a fun and exciting (not to mention beautiful!) place to be. Since this is a rural area, reliable transportation is strongly suggested. Housing is possible, contact us if interested. You can learn more about our farm at www.berrybrookfarmorganic.com. If interested, please send your resume and three references to berrybrookfarmorganic@gmail.com

We hope to hear from you!
