The Greenhorns' mission is to promote, support, and recruit young farmers in America.

We are a community powered studio dedicated to grassroots media, cultural programming and land repair for the benefit of the human and non-human worlds.

We work to create a welcoming and hospitable culture for new entrants in sustainable agriculture. We have made films, radio, guidebooks, parties+trainings, almanacs, anthologies, song collections, exhibits, mixers, art-stunts and trans-media collaboratives that defy classification.

Our various programs and projects address the practical and social concerns of those in their first years farming. We emphasize restorative land-practices, skill-building, networking and dialogue.

Job description

The Greenhorns' is seeking a new staff member to lead our Communications and Marketing. This work will focus on our media products (such as The New Farmer's Almanac), outreach and coordination with conferences/tabling opportunities, merchandise promotion, and development of relationships with partners, vendors, donors, advertisers, photographers, web-deigners, etc. Simply put, all things relating to our image and products out in the world. This role oversees the use of Greenhorns' database and our listserv on MailChimp, as well as enhancing the use of community infrastructures/platforms. There are major marketing moves to be made for the Greenhorns New Farmer's Almanac and Smithereen Farm products. Also, major spreadsheets already existing that can be added to and actualized with https://www.pipedrive.com/

Our mission is to create a hospitable and connected environment for regenerative agriculture. We produce events, publications and various multimedia projects that welcome in the next generation of AgroEcological farmers. We publish the NEW FARMERS ALMANAC, produce films called OURLAND, did many years of RADIO and will resume soon, and have 3 guidebooks in the making.  

We are based on a beautiful small farm in Maine, with a campus that includes: certified organic saltwater farm with teaching facilities, campsite and agrotourism operation, 1986 Odd Fellows hall turned agricultural library, two Pennamaquan River houses with boat shop, barns, carpenter shop with wood stove, mushroomery, amazing trails and nature in every direction. 

 

Other responsibilities for the Marketing / Digital Director include:

  • AirBNB/Hipcamp/Yonder.com site management, interface design and representation.

  • Correspondence for revenue related activities on our properties.
  • Postcard/Flyer administration and distribution.
  • Running Greenhorns' press page, press list, press releases and press collection.
  • Coordinating OUR LAND video production outreach/ social media channel.
  • Coordinating Farms Lost and Found video production outreach/ social media.
  • Managing the artist residency outreach. 
  • Managing social media strategy and integration. 


Start date ASAP with flexible part-time scheduling for remote work. Increasing to 20-30 hours per week for 2020 summer season, April-October. Potential to become year-round remote position, based on performance.
