Company description Located in Sequim at the foothills of the Olympic Mountains, River Run Farm is a cooperatively run vegetable operation. Our organic veggies make their way to customers through Seattle

Farmers Markets, a CSA, an on-site farmstand, and wholesale distributors in the region. In addition to tractors and veggies, we have cows, chickens, donkeys, and draft horses that contribute to tillage, fertility, and other farm systems (including human happiness!). Not far from the farm, you will have easy access to loads of hiking trails, Olympic National Park, the ocean, and the Dungeness River, which abuts the property.

Job description

River Run Farm is a diversified vegetable and livestock farm located on the Olympic Peninsula in Sequim, WA. We grow a large variety of vegetables for retail and wholesale markets, using both draft horse and tractor power. Our business is hiring for multiple field crew positions for the 2020 farm season.

The field crew will be made up of 6-8 people, and is primarily responsible for all the farm’s harvest tasks. We are looking for people that are easy to get along with, are open and forgiving communicators, and like to work hard and have fun. Ideally applicants will have worked on vegetable farms previously, but if you are new to farming and very confident that will like it, go ahead and apply.

 

Skills needed:

  • An interest and ability to communicate clearly and comfortably
  • Easy to get along with and positive attitude
  • A familiarity with vegetables and an eye for subtle quality differences
  • An ability to work diligently and maintain focus for through tedious tasks
  • An ability to do physically demanding work and work long hours
  • Thoughtfulness and an aptitude for listening, an ability to be sensitive to the needs of your teammates
 

Future opportunities include (after their first season, often times field crew members take on more responsibility and a larger diversity of tasks):

  • Higher pay + more responsibility
  • Managing sub aspects of the vegetable business (e.g. pack shed, greenhouses, perennial care, etc.)
  • Animal husbandry
  • Tractor and equipment operation, maintenance, and system innovation
  • Fertility tracking, analysis, and crop health improvements

This is a full-time seasonal job that pays $13.50/hr. and runs from June-October.

 

Note: River Run Farm is actually two separate vegetable operations on one piece of land. We share a land base, equipment, and infrastructure, and run two separate businesses. This job posting is for only one of the two businesses.
