Be a part of Philo Ridge Farm's new restaurant style café featuring fine farm-to-table cuisine in a bucolic setting. The Server is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and ensuring a positive dining experience by overseeing table maintenance, demonstrating knowledge of menu and ability to make food and beverage recommendations, and seeks opportunities to go the extra mile.  The Server works collaboratively with the rest of the front-of-house team to maintain a proper flow of service in the dining room.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepares room for dining by setting up tables and dining area to the restaurant standards.
  • Responsible for professional table service that includes:
  • Greeting and welcoming guests
  • Describing, explaining, and suggesting menu items, ingredients, and cooking techniques
  • Taking and placing food and beverage orders
  • Ensuring that beverage glasses are filled
  • Ensuring that the flow of food is matched with the dining speed
  • Clearing tables of empty plates
  • Preparing final bill and handling payment
  • Up-sell food & beverage items using suggestive selling techniques.
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the dining area at all times.
  • Monitor guest satisfaction and attend to any issues quickly and promptly.
  • Assist fellow servers and other front-of-house team members as needed to maintain the flow of service throughout the dining room.
  • Assist the kitchen in expediting and/or running food in order to maintain the flow of service throughout the dining room.
  • Continuously find ways to exceed guest expectations by anticipating their needs and proactively fulfilling them.
  • Complete any side work as directed by management.

Candidate/ Position Qualifications

  • One-year minimum experience of working in a restaurant as a server or similar position.
  • Excellent customer service skills; driven by a commitment to create an unparalleled dining experience through seamless, gracious, and thoughtful service.
  • Strong knowledge of food, cooking techniques, and beverage pairing as well as a desire to learn.
  • Works well in team setting and willing to pitch in to help but also a self-starter who is able to work independently.
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Shows professionalism and poise when interacting with guests and co-workers.
  • Consistent punctuality in attendance and is able to work evenings.
  • Ability to follow procedures and instruction.
  • Physical and environmental requirements: continuous standing and occasionally carrying heavy loads; occasional environmental exposure to cold, heat and water.
  • Preferred experience in the handling and routine maintenance of various types of restaurant machinery and equipment including, but not limited to: cash register, restaurant POS system, beverage dispensing equipment, espresso and coffee machine.
  • Knowledge of food safety and health state regulations preferred.
  • Must have a minor registration card with the Vermont Department of Liquor Control if under 18 years old to serve liquor.
  • Strong cash handling skills.
  • Minimum of two professional references.
 

Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
