Vernon Family Farm in Newfields, NH was founded in 2014 by Jeremiah and Nicole Vernon on 33 conserved acres along the Piscassic River in Newfields, NH. In the past few years, the farm has grown to include their three daughters Magnolia, Indigo and Pingree and a robust following of local food activists and community members. Vernon Family Farm specializes in the production of pasture poultry and produces approximately 20,000 chickens per season. In addition to chicken, they also sell a variety of mushrooms and vegetables at the farm store, at farmer’s markets and to local restaurants and grocers. Whether its their famous Wicked Chicken Rotisserie (WCR), shopping at their farm store or attending one of their many events, Vernon Family Farm is sure to impress and become a staple in your kitchen.

Job description

The Vernon’s are hiring for the following positions:

  • Production Assistant
  • Markets Assistant

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

This position is primarily responsible for assisting the Farm Manager with the daily production of growing and selling pastured chickens.


Anticipated Schedule:

May 31st – October 29th.
Sun: 12:00-10:00. Mon: 7:00-5:00. Tues: 7:00-5:00. Wed: 7:00-5:00. Thurs: 7:00-5:00.


Compensation

Pay: $11.00/hr

Benefits: $500/mo for 5 months for the purchase of store product or an additional $2,500 in locally grown and sourced food. And you just may have a hell of a good time!


Essential job duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Farm Manager with the production of the chickens including moving, feeding, watering, loading for slaughter, and transporting to slaughterhouse
  • Supporting the Markets Manager with Wicked Chicken Rotisserie and commercial kitchen preparation
  • Data tracking


Skills Required:

  • Equipment operation including tractors and trucks
  • Able to apply creative and critical thought to the task at hand while also recognizing its impact on the larger process
  • Great with people, enjoy conversation and be good with kids
  • Detail-oriented


Education and/or Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required
  • One year of production farming of livestock preferred

Must have a valid state issued driver’s license


MARKETS ASSISTANT:

This position is primarily responsible for assisting the Markets Manager with the management of the farm’s market outlets, including the store, CSA, farmers markets, wholesale and distribution. The position will also help support the supervision of the Wicked Chicken Rotisserie operation.


Anticipated Schedule:

May 31st – October 31st.
Sun: 9:00-7:00. Thurs: 9:00-7:00. Fri: 11:00-9:00. Sat: 5:00-3:00.


Compensation

Pay: $11.00/hr

Benefits: $500/mo for 5 months for the purchase of store product or an additional $2,500 in locally grown and sourced food. And you just may have a hell of a good time!


Essential job duties and responsibilities include assisting the Markets Manager with the following:
  • Managing vendors and assisting customers
  • Must have a deep knowledge and understanding of the product VFF produces and sells
  • Inventory management
  • Maintaining the grounds around the farm store including gardens, mowing, string trimming, etc…
  • A minimal amount of work in the production operations
  • Taking product photos for social media and the creation of digital content
  • Collecting customer data
  • Commercial kitchen activities for Wicked Chicken Rotisserie
  • Executing Wicked Chicken Rotisserie


Skills Required:

Must be able to apply creative and critical thought to the task at hand while also recognizing its impact on the larger process. Must be great with people, enjoy conversation and be good with kids. Must be detail-oriented.


Education and/or Experience:

Experience working on a farm, at a farmers market or in customer service is preferred. Experience driving a large vehicle/truck/tractor is a plus. 

Must have a valid state issued driver’s license.
