We are a 127-year old family farm and kitchen.  Everything we grow and produce is sold via our on-site store.  We have 10-15 acres in production annually and are in our fourth year farming according to organic practices.  We are a hardworking, communicative and growing company that is always open to adding talented and passionate team members.
Job description

Youngs Farm is a diversified vegetable farm located in Old Brookville, NY. The farm has been managed by the same family since its founding in 1893. The farm grows approximately 10 acres of crops, almost exclusively sold through the on-site retail store. The farm is currently transitioning to organic production and operating under the NOFA Farmer's Pledge as part of a multi-year transition process.


Job Description:

We are looking to hire additional crew members to work alongside the farm manager overseeing the day to day production and operation of the farm.  There is an opportunity for long-term employment. The retail store (which includes a bakery and farmstand) is open year-round Tuesday through Sunday with the exception of January. Job responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Greenhouse Plant Propagation
  • High Tunnel Production
  • Compost Production
  • Irrigation Management
  • Transplanting
  • Harvesting and Weeding
  • Packing and Washing Produce
  • General Grounds Management and Maintenance
  • Occasional assistance with on-site retail and bakery business

There are additional opportunities to learn to operate farm machinery (tillage, cultivating, mowing, etc.), perform soil analysis and take part in short and long-term seed and cover crop planning.
 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Agriculture, Horticulture or some Plant Propagation preferable
  • Ability to work and communicate with a small team, including thinking critically and independently
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining a sense of urgency
  • A keen interest in organic agriculture and a desire to learn more about it
  • Previous work experience, on-farm is ideal, secondarily in demanding trades (i.e. landscaping, construction, commercial kitchen, etc.)
  • Machinery and mechanical experience is an added value
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and be comfortable working outside in the elements
  • *willing to train strong applicants without experience*


Compensation:
Hourly - $13-20/hour - commensurate with ability and experience
