We are a horse-powered vegetable farm in the hills of central Maine.  With the help of our four draft horses, fabulous staff, and useless but enthusiastic farm dog--we grow ten-acres of MOFGA Certified Organic vegetables that we sell to coops and small grocery stores across the state.  While we take particular joy in the search for the perfect carrot, our diverse offerings allow us to have produce for sale winter, spring, summer and fall.

Seeking Pack Shed Manager to run the show in our busy wash pack shed for the 2020 season. This job is best suited for an individual who has worked at least two seasons on a vegetable farm, and who’d like to start exploring the more technical elements of the vegetable game, packing for local wholesale outlets, and people management.

Our farm sells predominantly to Co-Ops and small grocery stores across the state. While our offerings are reasonably diverse, there are a few main products that we focus on. The pack-shed crew is responsible for packing bulk orders, as well as managing and executing the packaging of our core retail products. The PSM will work closely with the farmers ensure that produce is being efficiently processed, quality control is on point, and orders are being filled and organized properly in the cooler for deliveries.   Our shed is quite bustling, so this individual needs to have a knack for organization, a cool head when the pressure is on and an eye for detail even amidst the bounty of August pack outs!

Pack shed manager can expect to spend 20-25hrs a week washing and packing. The work-load in the shed increases at the season barrels on, but is generally three days/wk. The remaining time in the week will be spent in the greenhouses or the fields alongside your fellow Ironwood crew members. This individual, along with the farmers, will be responsible for the management of one to two other employees who will work with them in the pack shed on a daily basis.

The ideal candidate has experience working in commercial vegetable production, eats (and loves) vegetables, has a keen eye for detail and is incredibly self-motivated. Experience managing small groups is a plus!

This position is full-time.  Our crew works Monday through Friday, 7am-4pm.

**As the season really gets going, this individuals hours shift on M and W to 9am to 6pm in order to create space to complete long pack days!

Position starts in May and runs right through to Thanksgiving. Part-time work in the shed is available through Christmas and into January for the right individual.

Compensation: starts at $15, with all the vegetables you can eat. 2 days PTO
