Company description FRESHFARM is a non-profit that promotes sustainable agriculture and improves food access and equity in the Mid-Atlantic Region. We do this by operating producer-only farmers markets that provide vital economic opportunities to local farmers and food producers and through innovative philanthropic outreach programs that educate the public about food and related environmental issues.  Job description

FoodPrints is FRESHFARM’s food education program that aims to make positive changes in what children and their families eat by giving them hands-on experiences with growing, harvesting, cooking and eating nutritious, fresh, local foods in season. FoodPrints currently operates in 15 D.C. Public Elementary Schools in Wards 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. We work in partnership with administrators and teachers to ensure that FoodPrints is a relevant, enriching program that teaches Common Core, Next Generation Science and DCPS/OSSE Health standards, and that adapts to the unique curricular goals of each school we partner with.

We are seeking an experienced teacher to lead our programming at a partner school in Ward 1 who is bilingual in Spanish and English. The ideal candidate will have a combination of classroom teaching experience with preschool – 5th grade students, strong classroom management skills, as well as experience with cooking, gardening, and educating children and adults about the benefits of fresh, local, nutritious, sustainable food. Volunteer registration with DC Public Schools, including fingerprinting and a tuberculosis test, is mandatory.

The Bilingual FoodPrints Lead Teacher will be responsible for overseeing a well-established FoodPrints Program at this school. You will join a talented and supportive team of teachers working across the city in FoodPrints partner schools. We anticipate that 25-30 hours per week during the school year will be required for this position, but work hours can vary from week to week depending on how the Lead Teacher schedules classes and on school holidays and events. Ideal start date is March 2020.

  • communicating with the school teaching staff and administration to schedule lesson times and to plan curriculum that supports learning goals for the school;
  • collecting feedback from classroom teachers about what works well with individual classes and customizing lessons to best meet the needs of each room;
  • preparing and setting up materials for each lesson;
  • cleaning up from classroom activities;
