Head Chef and Kitchen Coordinator Camp Phoenix

  • Date Posted March 10, 2020
  • Location San Gregorio, CA
  • Category Education / Nonprofit
  • Job type Summer Job
Company description

Camp Phoenix is summer school, reimagined. We bring children from low-income backgrounds to our 3-week, overnight summer program to engage in outdoor and social-emotional learning: sleeping under the stars, cooking breakfast as a team, picking berries from local farms, and peering into tide pools at the nearby beaches. We empower youth to overcome the summer opportunity gap by blending the essence of sleep-away camp, with the rigors of math, science and reading instruction. Founded in 2012, this powerful combination of academics and overnight camp uniquely positions our campers to make growth in academics, while also growing their identities as individuals and young leaders.

Job description Employment dates: Flexible off-site training hours (starting in June, about 6-8 hours); Staff Training (July 16-19, 2020); Camp Dates (July 19-August 8, 2020; plus one Leadership Training weekend (early July TBD, if available)

The food at camp is one of the memories campers rave most about! The Head Chef/Kitchen Coordinator brings this to life for our youth, who are often missing home. Our middle-school aged youth experience a real comfort with delicious, healthy foods, and often describe Camp Phoenix food as "home cooked". In this role, you will manage the kitchen and staff, purchase and track towards camp food budget, instill safety procedures, work with vendors, oversee menus/nutrition for over 130 people daily. Additionally, the Head Chef will oversee the camper cooking program, ensuring the safety and food education of youth.
