Daybreak Growers Alliance is seeking an Operations Manager to oversee its programming and operations. DGA operates a multi-farm statewide CSA program and sells Maine grown products wholesale to retailers, restaurants and institutions. This position requires an individual committed to the growth of Maine’s farms and local food system with a strong work ethic that is highly motivated to grow a farmer owned start up business.
General Tasks:
Financial Reporting
- Generate weekly wholesale and CSA reports and review with owners and staff
Marketing
- Work with DGA Team to develop yearly marketing plan
- Update website, social media, printed materials regularly
- Create and send monthly newsletter to mailing list
Vendor Engagement
- Recruit new vendors
- Participate in crop and product planning
- Monthly outreach to vendors with DGA updates
Customer Engagement
- Serve as point person to CSA site coordinators and wholesale buyers
- Assist CSA Membership Manager with customer service
- Manage online ordering systems, including enter weekly availability from farms and disseminating information to customers
Staff Management
- Direct supervisor to Operations staff, providing guidance ongoing and quarterly reviews
- Oversee staff in order fulfillment of shares and wholesale orders
- Serve as point person to drivers for load in/load out and en route troubleshooting
- Oversee drivers and train drivers on vehicle maintenance and travel log needs
Sales
- Grow CSA and wholesale customer base, including working with CSA Membership Manager to establish new pick up locations and with the Wholesale Manager to establish new wholesale customers
- Responsible for membership retention and outreach strategy. Work with CSA Membership Manager to implement this strategy ongoing.
Purchasing
- Aggregate weekly availability from farms
- Oversee and execute weekly purchasing from farms for CSA and wholesale, while adhering to crop plans and purchasing goals by farm partner
- Create and enter weekly CSA crop availability into online CSA ordering platform
- Responsible for purchasing packaging, supplies as dictated by needs and budget
Facility Management
- Serve as point person to landlord on any maintenance issues
- Ensure facility, equipment and supplies are maintained properly
Required Skills
- Previous experience working in agricultural operations and sales, ideally in Maine or the Northeast (3 years)
- Enthusiastic about outreach to customers, both individual CSA customers and wholesale buyers
- Very comfortable conducting physical work, including regular bending, lifting, pulling, pushing, driving
- Demonstrated experience with financial management
- Demonstrated managerial experience
- Keen eye for details and areas of potential improvement
- Big picture thinking on developing operational systems
- Adept at using a computer, knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs and Google Docs
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn: Quickbooks, Excel, social media platforms (Facebook, instagram), Harvie or other online CSA software
