Company description Common Grain Alliance is a non-profit dedicated to reviving the artisan grain economy in the Mid-Atlantic by connecting and supporting farmers, millers, bakers, and other end-users of grain.


Founded in 2018, we aim to build a collaborative, sustainable, and profitable grain economy in which local and regional businesses produce nutritious, flavorful, and consistent grain products. Our programming focuses on

  • Expanding and strengthening the network of grain-economy participants in Virginia and surrounding areas
  • Helping participants acquire the knowledge and skills they need through speaker series, workshops, hands-on training, and other educational opportunities
  • Assisting participants, especially farmers, with market access
  • Developing shared infrastructure
  • Establishing farming and grain quality standards and certification processes that provide participants with a marketable quality rating
  • Educating consumers and policy makers on the value of local and regional grains and artisanal grain products through advocacy and marketing
Job description Common Grain Alliance (CGA) is hiring a Project Administrator (PA) to implement a new project funded by Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education entitled “A Modular Curriculum for Growing Food Grain for the Local Market.” This project will directly address the educational barriers to growing grain for the local market in partnership with experts at Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE), Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), and the Natural Resources & Conservation Service (NRCS). The core feature of the project is a set of eight 60- to 90-minute classes customized to the intended audiences and held at farmer gatherings around the region. With the support of the project partners, the PA will be responsible for developing the curriculum and associated resources (e.g. powerpoints, handouts, short videos) and conducting classes using the curriculum in a variety of settings.

Qualifications
  • Local food system advocate committed to CGA’s mission to revitalize the regional grain economy
  • Relationship-builder adept at working with diverse populations in different settings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience teaching in a classroom setting, leading workshops, or equivalent
  • Experience in farming, milling, or baking (preferred but not required)
  • Desire to acquire expertise on grain growing, processing, and marketing
  • Excellent attention to detail; ability to problem-solve and take initiative and responsibility
  • Able to perform light video editing to produce ten 1- to 3-minute educational videos per year
  • Able and willing to travel within the CGA membership area up to four times per year
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Docs

Compensation
The PA will be paid $22/hour for 672 hours/year ($14,784/year) to develop and implement the classroom curriculum, handbook, and video channel. The project is funded for two years. Compensation this position is : hourly, $20/hr + Location job can be done remotely Application instructions
