  • Job type Full-Time
Company description

Ox Hollow farm is a diversified, family operated farm nestled at the gateway of Litchfield County. Established in 1996 by Mark Maynard with the mission of providing hormone and antibiotic free products to consumers, Mark has utilized his education and upbringing to produce all-natural, pasture raised Angus beef as well as high-grade pork and poultry. Mark’s 30+ years-experience raising beef has been entrenched in his belief in sustainability, conservation and obtaining maximum crop yields. Since Mark's marriage to Stephanie in 2015 Ox Hollow has moved to non-gmo and increased produce production by 110%. Since 2006 we have operated two seasonal farm stands and 6 farm markets with the goal of providing as much of our own produce as possible.

Job description

Whether you have a strong desire to pursue farming, or a general interest in working outdoors, and learning about the world around you, we can offer ample opportunities and a setting where there is always an opportunity to expand your interest/ understanding of the farming industry in rural Connecticut.

We participate in several farm markets within the Fairfield county region (New Canaan, Westport, Darien, New Canaan) New York (Union Square NYC, Stuyvesant Town NYC) and Locally(Washington) which require driving a box truck as well as setting up a tent, and a display of vegetable products, and assisting customers in purchasing meat products, while maintaining an orderly work environment via the coolers and freezers which house our products. This is a great customer service opportunity, but also requires some intensity in strength, driving and managing finances.

We lease a roadside permanent farm-stand currently, and have a Barn Store on Premisis of one of our farms. These open in early May, and provide the same products that we provide at the farm market, as well as some other local items, from our other farm networks. This will require stocking and accounting for products, customer service, marketing and planning displays, and ensuring accounting for and managing finances.

The tasks of our daily operation include feeding and cleaning up after our animals (150-200 cows, 30 pigs, 500 laying hens, 250 field broiler hens, and 20 lambs) as well as crop production, and vegetable production. There are varying positions available based on your interest.

We are looking for a dedicated, seasoned employee, or a motivated individual looking for experience with animal care, crop management, and vegetable production. We have 350 acres to diversify our crop and planting, and we can offer opportunities both managing the land as well as caring for livestock and farm market sales.

A well rounded employee would provide skills to independently feed and clean up after all stalled animals, bringing feed to animals on pasture (whether it be round bales, filling creep feeders for calves, or putting minerals out for mother cows). Spreading Manure on pasture and crop land, making general repairs to fencing, building structures, clean up and landscaping around enclosures; working with Mark, Stephanie and family to worm, AI, castrate and treat all cattle via chute system; plant garden lots, secure fencing and pest control, and monitor growth of vegetation via invasive plant control. Harvest vegetables and transport to permanent farm stand or daily farm markets; stand in for Mark or Stephanie at farm Markets if necessary. Travel to processor to pick up finished meat products, possibly drive truck and livestock trailer. Possibly drive equipment at farm, unload square bales, wrap round bales, ect. Any other questions please call Mark or Stephanie {Numbers listed above}

Positions Available: Sales & Retail, General labor/garden, harvesting and farm market help.
