Job description

Job would start in early-mid September.

The shopkeeper is the glue that holds the shop together! This person is the first person to interact with our community and our customers. As such, they have a lot to live up to! The shopkeeper is responsible for representing the store’s philosophies and heart through all their interactions, including: ordering with vendors & farmers, customer service, arranging displays, marketing content (email campaigns, social media ads, etc.), and more. The ideal person for this role should be: friendly, warm, have no problem holding themselves or others accountable when necessary, a good multi-tasker, respectful, thoughtful, and able to show up - both in timeliness and for social justice. This person should be passionate about food and the health of the world. Please read below for a more detailed list of shopkeeper tasks.

JOB DUTIES (Include but are not limited to) Front of House / SHOP KEEPER 

  • Processes payments, educates customer on what’s available 
  • Knowledgeable on ingredients and can help customers make decisions 
  • Monitor & tidy stock in fridge/freezer/on shelves in shop and in stockroom 
  • Track & report perishable items to store room at the end of the day each day (or as makes sense) for compost or cooking purposes 
  • Track & report low-stock weekly for ordering purposes 
  • Order stock items, as needed
  • Coordinate with owner regarding picking up stock items from markets, farms or other locations
  • Maintain/Update signage & label design as needed w/ owner 
  • Bank runs, constantly monitor box for appropriate change 
  • Balance register at end of shift, note & report discrepancies & maintain POS 
  • Maintain/Update online store
  • Clean shop at the end of each day according to end of day duties (sweep, mop, wipe down) & maintain cleaning schedule for staff 
  • Reports maintenance issues to owner and schedules repairs as needed 
  • Helps with upkeep of social media accounts 
  • Helps brainstorm advertising and business growth plans
  • Help with signage, labels, and graphics as needed 
  • Help at kitchen in emergency situations 
  • Transition broth & breakfast condiments as needed 
  • Whatever is needed! 


Employee Relations & Management Duties

  • Assist in posting, interviewing and onboarding of new staff 
  • Process new hire paperwork and maintain employee files 
  • Submit timesheets for team every other Sunday
  • Maintain all staff schedules – to be posted/emailed bi-monthly 
  • Manage & train staff and report issues to owners 
  • Create/Update/Distribute/Enforce Employee policies
  • Reads daily diary for input from staff & holds staff meetings (quarterly) or when necessary/appropriate 
  • Communicate clearly with vendors and farmers to coordinate orders


Bookkeeping/Accounts Payable

  • Record all bills, checks, receipts, etc.
  • Record/update estimated monthly overhead expenses (rent, payroll, subscriptions, etc.) as necessary
  • Print & prepare checks for signing, mail checks when ready
Compensation this position is : hourly, $20/hr + Application instructions
