Malai seeks an Operations Manager who will be a critical leader on our small team and serve as a point-person for all day-to day activities, setting the foundation to help grow Malai into our next phase.  The Operations Manager will be responsible for product and process quality to ensure the highest level of customer and consumer satisfaction.  As a key member of a start-up team, the Operations Manager will also have the opportunity to make meaningful impact in other functional areas of the company.  This is a full-time position based in Brooklyn, NY.  The Operations Manager will report to the Founder and CEO and will supervise a team of production and sales staff.
 

The ideal candidate has experience working in a fast-paced environment, is able to think on their feet, has an “all hands on deck” mentality, and has the flexibility, energy and humor to handle anything that comes their way.  Experience working in a start-up is preferred, but not necessary.  A flexible schedule is required including nights and weekends to support our store, markets and other events.
 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Production Planning and Forecasting

  • Develop and implement plans to significantly reduce costs across the supply chain (raw materials, packaging, finished goods, warehousing, and freight)
  • Work in conjunction with CEO to develop forecasts
  • Manage order processing and fulfillment functions
  • Manage inventory of all raw materials, packaging, and finished goods
  • Identify new suppliers as needed to ensure both capacity and quality needs are being met
  • Establish additional procedures and metrics to measure operational efficiency, such as manufacturing yield

Manufacturing and Quality

  • Oversee manufacturing/production runs
  • Design and implement policies and procedures to ensure that quality standards are met during production
  • Develop and issue manufacturing instructions for new products and processes

Employee Management

  • Maintain operations staffing through recruitment, hiring and onboarding, training and performance management
  • Build, maintain and grow a highly-engaged team, communicating the vision of Malai, and supporting others to achieve superior results
  • Develop and maintain training materials and standard operating procedures as necessary, ensuring staff are up to date with current company procedures

Event Operations and Sales

  • Represent the company in any situation, including in trade shows, markets and events, and wholesale accounts
  • Ensure brand standards and customer experiences are consistent and in line with company expectations at markets, pop-ups, demonstrations and other events
  • Oversee and support onsite execution of markets, pop-ups, demonstrations and other events, including set-up and breakdown of all events
  • Manage third-party stakeholders in markets and ensure timely communication and regular check-ins to ensure stakeholder satisfaction
  • Ensure event amenities and equipment are up to date/functioning adequately

Qualifications:

  • Proven operations experience (3-5 years preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (as per insurance requirements)
  • Flexibility to work on nights and weekends
  • Duties may include lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Food Handler's Permit
