Company description Pine Street Inn shelters adults of all backgrounds and identities in homeless shelters and supportive housing programs.  We run a workforce training program that graduates trainees who have passed Serv-Safe certification, and work with trainees to find and retain employment.  Pine Street Inn's kitchen produces more than 2000 meals per day, serving people in need with dignity. Job description The Guest Services Specialist-- Food Services, works full time, Mon-Fri, 1030AM-7PM, at our temporary Suffolk shelter to receive, hold, and distribute prepared hot and cold meals to the guests at the shelter.  The GSS-- Food Services must be Serv-Safe certified and must be able to inspect deliveries, hold and serve foods at appropriate temperatures, and must be able to communicate clearly with the kitchen and shelter management around equipment, inventory, and other issues impacting the delivery of meals to shelter guests. 

The GSS-- Food Services staff will have interactions with guests at the shelter, and must be someone who is patient, clear, and firm in their dealings with others.  The GSS-- Food Services staff must be able to identify and seek help for escalating situations, and must be willing to assist with medical issues beyond food allergy and food sanitation concerns. 
 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the Human Services field
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in food handling and/or food prep
  • ServSafe Certified in food service/food handling
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to stretch, bend and lift up to (twenty-five) 25 lbs
  • Ability to move large trays and pans
  • Ability to push/pull carts with trays of food, up to (fifty) 50 lbs
  • Ability to perform the repetitive motion of scooping and serving daily
  • Ability to assist guests up and down stairs, and in-and-out of wheelchairs
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies
  • Ability to respond safely, quickly, and calmly in emergencies and to emergency situations
  • Ability to use good judgement in stressful or emotionally charged situations
  • The sensitivity and patience to work with guests suffering from mental illness (many untreated), alcohol and other drug addiction and abuse
  • Ability to be resilient in difficult and ambiguous situations
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to comprehend and apply Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care skills
  • Ability to communicate/speak (as well as to listen) in a non-judgmental manner
