Cheesemaker Fuzzy Udder Creamery LLC

  • Date Posted July 15, 2020
  • Location Whiefield, ME
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description Fuzzy Udder Creamery is a small female led farm and creamery located in the windy pastures of the Sheepscot River valley in Whitefield Maine. We make a variety of fresh, soft-ripened, and aged cheeses from sheep, goat, and cow’s milk as well as sheep’s milk yogurt and sell pastured meat, tanned hides and fiber. For our cheeses, in addition to our own milk, we buy certified organic jersey cow's milk from The Milkhouse in Monmouth Maine via Grace Pond Farm and organically raised sheep's milk from sheep raised on lush pastures at Misty Brook Farm in Albion. We currently milk 10 goat and 6 sheep. In addition to cheese, meat and fiber, we are also selling fresh sheep and goat's milk from our herd!

In the winter months our sheep and goats eat excellent second cut hay grown in Clinton Maine. When the grass is growing, we rotationally graze our herd in the lush pastures of the Sheepscot Valley, in 2020 we finally gained access to the pasture just up the hill from our farm which is across the road from the Sheepscot General Store. We feed our herd Maine seaweed and an array of minerals daily, we feed a small amount of Maine grown oats, barley, and sunflower seeds to our milking herd but the rest of the herd is 100% grassfed. We also dam-raise our kids and lambs which means the babies stay with their mom's until weaning. We are committed to humane, environmentally and socially conscious practices and raise our animals with lots of love and affection.
