Position Summary:
The R&D Specialist supports Product Development and R&D functions throughout the business. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, working with a cross functional team on new product innovation from concept through commercialization and product and process improvements, conducting shelf life studies and sensory evaluations, label review and validation, and other Research and Development tasks. Attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational abilities are required. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

Job Duties:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Independently lead and coordinate development work on new and existing products.
• Plan, organize, and execute sensory evaluation and testing of new and existing products, shelf life, and second sourcing.
• Document observed results, analyze data, draw conclusions and make recommendations during product development activities.
• Proof artwork packaging for all new products and any changes to existing artwork.
• Support all technical development activities to scale up for commercialization, product launch, and post launch monitoring.
• Support Customer Service, Marketing and Shipping by providing product technical information as requested.
• Update and maintain product formulation, ingredient and finished goods specifications, organic and kosher product status, and nutrition databases.
• Work with Procurement to ensure consistent specifications for new ingredients from vendors. Assist in sourcing, testing and approving new suppliers and/or ingredients.
• Understand the herbal and medicinal functions or our raw materials and our finished products, actively learn about new herbal and nutritional sources of health and well being.
• Understand Company values and consumer needs.

Required Competencies & Knowledge:
3-6 years’ experience in the food industry, with demonstrated success in developing new products from concept through commercialization.

A bachelor’s degree in Science is required; a Food Science degree is preferred.

• The ideal candidate should have good laboratory experience and be familiar with GMP’s. Knowledge of Organic and CFR 111 regulations preferred.
• Candidate should also have strong organizational skills and be able to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently.
• Solid math, computer, and basic scientific skills are required.
• Must be very detailed oriented in observations and documentation.

Ability to:
• Work in a rapidly evolving environment with flexibility and focus
• Prioritize effectively to meet targets
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ensure collaborative relationships within team environment.
• Show initiative and a high level of independence.

Proficiency in: MS Office

Work Environment:
• Work is done primarily in a laboratory and/or office setting.
• Regular exposure to botanicals
• Eugene, Oregon

Physical Requirements:
• Sitting at a work station for extended periods of time
• Stand, walk, climb stairs on a frequent basis
• Must be able to lift 20 pounds on an infrequent basis.
