Internship description

AGC is currently seeking a Social Media Intern to support our online presence, voice, and educational content. As much of our work focuses on raising awareness around the injustices of the current food system, and the importance of farmer autonomy and agro-ecological practices, our social media platforms are key tools for engaging and growing our audience of supporters and partners. Through various channels including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Mailchimp and Medium - we explore the intersection of human rights within our food system, exploring such themes as gender equality, Indigenous rights, land grabbing, decolonization, community organizing and peasant uprisings. This internship is a one of a kind opportunity to learn about the complexity of our food web, while working alongside leading activists and thought leaders in land rights, ecological agriculture and social justice globally, and to gain experience in research especially as it pertains to content creation in the non-profit and social sector.

DUTIES:

The intern will:

  1. Create weekly content maps for social media platforms
  2. Design unique content using platforms like Adobe Spark and/or Adobe Photoshop.
  3. Track social media engagement to identify successful campaigns and areas for improvement
  4. Research emerging food justice issues to be used for content
  5. Post content across social media platforms using Buffer
  6. Grow engagement on a 1:1 level through social media (Facebook & Instagram)
  7. Manage AGC’s newsletter communication and campaigns

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interest and commitment to global Food Sovereignty
  • Undergraduate degree or currently enrolled student- communications and marketing backgrounds preferred
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Experience working with social networking sites and familiarity with social network analytics, Adobe and social media management platforms preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks

We are absolutely committed to making this role a meaningful experience, and to shaping the opportunity so it helps our interns to move towards their own personal goals - whether it be to build up their knowledge of ecological agriculture, to connect with leaders in the field, to gain experience of non-profit content development, or simply to use their time to advance a worthwhile project. In this role you will have the chance to work closely with AGC founder Loren Cardeli and to learn from his experience and mentoring. There is also scope to develop your contribution beyond research, if you have time, aptitude and interest. We look forward to hearing from you!
