California Assistant Coordinator Real Food Generation

  • Job type Part-Time
Company description Real Food Generation (“RFG”) harnesses the power of youth and universities to create an equitable and sustainable food system. After winning dozens of campaigns nationally that have resulted in $80 million committed to our definition of “Real Food” annually, we have proven that student organizing can drive substantial change in the food chain in every region of the country at a wide variety of schools. Building off of our successes, RFG launched two new initiatives in 2018. The Real Meals Campaign is an unprecedented coalition of national organizations representing farmers, ranchers, fishermen, and environmentalists working to change the food service management industry. Uprooted & Rising is a movement to end college and university support for Big Food and white supremacy in the food system and to direct the energy of our generation towards food sovereignty. Job description The Role:

Uprooted & Rising (“UNR”) is looking for a California-based organizer to join a fierce, smart team as we mobilize to fundamentally challenge white supremacy and corporate control in our food system and build a movement for food sovereignty. The California Assistant Coordinator (“California AC”) will play a key role in developing UNR’s regional strategy and campaigns in California. This role will have a particular focus on issues involving food and land sovereignty, in alignment with the First Peoples of California. They will also catalyze and coach campus and community initiatives to build our base of active support for UNR in California. Through local and virtual trainings and actions, they’ll support the leadership of students and communities in and around institutions of higher education. In addition to supporting base-building and action, they will establish and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations that work on food and environmental justice, while also holding organizational responsibilities as an RFG staff member.
