Company description Sweet Generation (est 2012) is a social enterprise bakery specializing in handcrafted pastries and cakes. Our nonprofit program, RISE, provides holistic training in job-readiness, entrepreneurial thinking, and social-emotional development for young people from historically marginalized communities.

Our tiny 500sf East Village shop is expanding to a giant 9,000sf Bushwick warehouse which will house a cafe, event space, production kitchen, test kitchen, youth classrooms and offices. 
Job description

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the operational efficiency, profitability, customer satisfaction, and product quality at Sweet Generation Bakery. The GM plays a critical role of bridging between the RISE program and SGB’s core business.  The GM oversees, directs, and manages the operations of Sweet Generation Bakery, managing labor, supplies, inventory, production schedules, quality control and timely delivery of products and services to ensure customer satisfaction and profitability. The GM is ultimately responsible for achieving goals and results of business plans and strategies. 

 

Retail, Catering & Wholesale Operations

  • Oversees retail, wholesale & catering operations, ensuring everything is running smoothly and on time.
  • Ensures all materials, processes, people and schedules are in place for each day of operation. 
  • Facilitates communication between all departments to ensure seamless operations. 
  • Develops, updates, and implements SG policies and procedures to ensure quality of all operations. 
  • Oversees product quality and quantity management, leveraging resources and labor to maximize efficiency.
  • Sets and manages comprehensive short and long-term goals for performance and growth.
  • Maintains personal relationships with key accounts. 
  • Ensures customer satisfaction in quality, service and problem resolution.
  • Leads planning, production and staffing for events, and provides on-site management.
  • Promotes highest level of cleanliness. Ensures housekeeping and janitorial tasks are scheduled and conducted on a regular basis. 
  • Responsible for the implementation and upkeep of menu plans including special functions, holidays, and online ordering. 
  • Leads all new product launches

Staff Management

  • Leads the team as an example of work ethic and brand standards.
  • Manages staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs, problem-solves on the spot with challenges.
  • Ensures thorough product knowledge, quality control, time management, aesthetics standards, sanitation, and safety.
  • Plans, supports and distributes the staff schedule.
  • Conducts performance reviews for all staff; rewarding and correcting performance. 
  • Addresses complaints and resolves problems. 
  • Coaches and provides frequent feedback to all staff through consistent, clear communication and regular team meetings.
  • Submits weekly payroll reports, manages staff time and labor costs.
  • Manages daily COVID-19 health logs for staff and customers

Recruitment & Training

  • Leads recruiting, training and retaining new staff.
  • Coordinates and participates in applicant interviews, hiring, orientation and departmental training.
  • Manages onboarding documentation and ensures all new hires are authorized for employment.
  • Keep informed of new methods, techniques, and new company products to determine training needs.
  • Retrain as necessary. 

Administrative & Financial

  • Participates in expansion planning and execution.
  • Prepares for and communicates with staff about upcoming milestones, events, changes in the business.
  • Updates process documents, and ensures implementation of process updates across full organization.
  • Participates in the research and evaluation of new equipment, products and production techniques. 
  • Supports budgeting and cash management processes.
  • Reviews sales results, compares to established objectives, and takes steps to ensure expectations are exceeded.
  • Responsible for the setup, maintenance and improvement of the company's supply chain. Main POC for all vendors.
  • Collaborates with team to build supply/demand forecasts.
  • Develops and maintains robust QA/QC systems and procedures.
  • Assists leadership in fundraising ventures.

Sweet Generation Bakery | R I S E

  • Works in collaboration with the RISE Program Director (PD) to plan, staff, grow and operate RISE.
  • Models company culture and standards; motivates, coaches, and builds trusting relationships. 
  • Develops opportunities for RISE to be involved in business operations.
  • Work in collaboration with PD to develop training plans for RISE apprentices and youth employees.
  • Manages discount program for participants, alum, and partners.
  • Enforces all policies and procedures, and provides disciplinary action when necessary. 
  • Supports staff in completing performance evaluations of participants.
  • Ensures staff are appropriately training and supporting RISE participants on-the-job.
Compensation this position is : salaried, varies DOE, $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 Application instructions
