Urban Farm Fermentory is a beverage producer, experimental urban farm, fermentation factory, and community engagement hub located in Portland, Maine. It is here that we craft authentic kombucha, jun, cider, beer, mead, vinegars, and foods using locally farmed and foraged ingredient. Job descriptionOur longtime production manger is leaving us for an exciting new position at a larger brewery. Perhaps you are the right person to replace him. At UFF, the role of Production Manager is not strictly a desk job: brewing, packaging, cellaring work will be required. With Covid19, we are a slightly smaller, leaner company and versatility is required.
The basic areas of responsibilities are:Management
- Manage production staff around all activities to do with creation of products
- Ensure quality and on time production of all SKUs including beer, cider, mead, kombucha, and vinegar
- Manage inventory, create production schedules, procure materials and ingredients and plan seasonality of products and flavors accordingly
- Meet regularly with staff concerning but not limited to employee evaluations, hiring, performance, of issues
- Produce and adhere to a working budget
- Product projections to track efficient production of products
Collaboration
- Work closely with GM and CEO to ensure transparent and fluid implementation of UFF’s vision.
- Work closely with staff to meet production goals
- Work closely with GM and sales team to meet sales goals
- Work closely with our Distributors and the Sales team to ensure that weekly and monthly orders are met
Production
- Assist and lead brewing of beer and gruit: wort production, fermentation, and packaging.
- Monitor fermentations and manage staff involved with all products including cider, mead, kombucha, and vinegar
- QC of all products
- Work closely with Office Manger on procurement of all ingredients and dry goods
- Assist with equipment maintenance and functioning.
- Offer packaging line support
- Must be able to lift 55lbs with or without assistance and sustain efficient activity standing on hard surfaces for 8 hours or more.
- Ability to twist, bend, push, pull, climb ladders, crawl, etc. safely; to oneself and to others
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years production brewery experience
- Experience managing a team and employees
- Formal brewing/fermentation education a huge plus but not required
- Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently
- Must be 21+
- Attention to detail
- Excellent cleaning and sanitation practices
- Mechanically inclined a plus
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to problem-solve and diagnose issues
- Step out of one’s comfort zone.
