Company description The Dynamite Shop is a now-online culinary school for kids 7-15 and their families. Our goal is to help the rising generation of cooks find their niche in food, to celebrate the diversity of our communities and the wider world, and to develop positive relationships around food. Consider us Home Ec 2.0: we champion an old fashioned reverence of the table and offer a cool, supportive place to connect with other kids across the country while learning fundamental cooking skills that will last a lifetime.

The Dynamite Shop empowers kids to express themselves through the lens of food, so we’re not just cooking lasagna and bibimbap for dinner--we’re learning about regional variations and exploring how food intersects with culture and community.

Our core curricula is The Dynamite Dinner Club where kids gather on Zoom to cook dinner for their families and learn real life cooking skills in the process. The larger picture is that we are a community that revolves around food; we offer cooking classes for the whole family, weekend workshops, Zoom birthday parties and family gatherings. We have an immediate opening for both a culinary instructor and a moderator for our online classes.

 

Experience working in food and with recipes is essential for both positions, but the teaching position requires a very strong command of the kitchen and the ability to teach up to 25 children on Zoom to make their way through a 1.5 hour dinner lesson or 1-2 hour specialty workshops (please see our website for examples.) Moderators also need to understand cooking, the mechanics of recipes, and be able to interact online and hold the space, fielding questions in the chat, and keeping the teacher on track to finish the class on time.

Candidates should be enthusiastic about our mission and have a real passion for engaging youth around food and good judgment around children and safety. 

 

The Dynamite Shop vibe is open, inclusive, spunky, supportive, out-of-the-box and creative. It's lots of fun and we keep a tight ship and expect all our employees to adhere strictly to our protocols. 

 

To start, both positions are freelance/PT a few hours a week, and obviously from home. However, both positions could grow to more hours quickly as our programs are reaching a wider audience each week.

Teachers are expected to have a clean, well-lit kitchen and reliable wifi.

Our moderator rate is $20/hr. Our teacher rate is DOE.
