SpringRise is a garden and nursery located in The Village of Catskill (Catskill, NY) that is looking for a full time market gardener to assist in the maintenance and growth of our operations. We are committed to working in harmony with our land and providing an inclusive environment for life to flourish. Our intentions for the upcoming growing season are to refine our vegetable/herb/flower production and begin a more consistent exchange with the surrounding community. The last three seasons were spent establishing a strong foundation and we are ready to expand our team and our capabilities.

Responsibilities :
 

Soil Health, Including Onsite Compost

Seed Selection, Starting, Care

Bed Prep, Direct Sowing, Transplanting, Harvesting

High Tunnel Management

Irrigation Management

Wash / Pack

Sales Channel Guidance, Preparation, Execution

Record Keeping + Reporting

Maintaining High Level Of Cleanliness + Organization
 

Requirements :

Qualifications :
 

3-5 Years Market Garden Experience. Ideally, you have run your own operation and/or worked with a successful operation at a high level and gained the skills necessary to go out on your own.

Comfortable working with all hand tools typically associated with market gardening.

Ability to read, write and perform arithmetic. Please be confident in your written communications as well as your ability to work in a sales environment.

Ability to lift and move 50 pounds repeatedly.

Ability to bend and reach repeatedly without physical limitation.

Ability to work joyfully in all weather conditions and temperatures.

Valid Driver’s License 
 

Job Details :
 

** We would like you to be onsite and working by January 2021. If for any reason you are unable to be onsite, please be available by phone and video to assist with seed ordering, planning, etc. The sooner you can be here, the better.
 

Full Time, Year Round Position. Tuesday - Saturday 7:00 AM - 4:00 / 5:00 PM. We trust that you will get the work done and your schedule will reflect your responsibilities.
 

Onsite Housing Provided. There is a two bedroom / two bathroom home located adjacent to the gardens where you are welcome to live. We use the basement for microgreen production, cold storage, and market storage.
 

Compensation. We would like this to be an open discussion based on experience. We pay a living wage and provide a healthy atmosphere for our team.
 

Time Off + Holidays. We would like this to be an open discussion based on your commitments, needs, etc.
 

Additional :
 

The head of the garden lives onsite but travels between Catskill and NYC weekly to fulfill other work responsibilities. He checks in daily and you will communicate with him via phone, text, email, etc. The onsite team will support you and is capable of running the gardens without his presence.
 

This is a leadership position. We are a small but mighty team with every intention to grow. We support and push each other in all aspects of our daily work but it is also important that we are self motivated and able to work/solve problems independently. You will be responsible for constant team and task management.
 

Our market garden reference points are growers like Charles Dowding, Eliot Coleman, Jean Martin Fortier, Richard Perkins, Singing Frogs Farm, etc. Our guiding principle is the ecological harmony present in nature. While we recognize we are ‘constructing’ natural systems, diversity and resilience are our foundations.
