Creekside Farm is seeking a passionate and experienced farmer with the skills and energy to manage the 3-acre vegetable farm and a flock of laying hens. The farmer should be knowledgeable of and committed to farming practices that improve the health of soil and water. Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail orientated, and adaptable. Efficiency and time management skills are important for the role. The farm manager is responsible for the planning and production of vegetables for the CSA, farmer's markets, and various wholesale accounts. In addition, the farm manager will hire and oversee seasonal farm help and volunteers, build annual farm budgets, take and organize farm records, manage email correspondence, and monthly newsletters.
Responsibilities
- Manage all operations of the farm: Propagation, soil fertility, planting, cultivation, harvesting, packing, etc.
- Manage and coordinate sales outlets: CSA (80 members), farmers market, on-farm sales, wholesale accounts
- Develop and implement detailed crop plans to meet the needs of the farm's production and sales goals
- Order all seeds and supplies needed for the growing season
- Hire and manage the farms seasonal assistant grower
- Care for the pasture-raised laying hens, including but not limited to; feed orders, egg harvesting and washing, daily health and wellness checks, cleaning the coop, rotating the coop around the farm monthly
- Build and follow the farms annual budget
- Create weekly emails to CSA members with vegetable box contents, storage tips, and recipes
- Create monthly newsletters for farm members and customers
- Work with general managers to maintain infrastructure and equipment
- Assist with on-farm community events
Requirements
- 5 years experience farming on a sustainable production farm - largely focused on vegetable production and management
- 1-2 years of management experience
- Experience operating farm machinery
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Attention to detail and organized
- Friendly disposition and willingness to engage with community members and farm customers
- Valid drivers license for use of farm trucks for produce deliveries, farm events, and weekly farmers markets
