Company description Organic Redneck Growers is a diversified family farm whose mission is to grow high quality, tasty food for our local community and ourselves while enjoying the process. We are a 2nd generation farm in the McKenzie River Valley 35 minutes east of Eugene and 40 minutes from the Willamette National Forest and Three Sisters Wilderness in the Cascade Mountains. We are an Oregon Tilth Certified Organic Farm in our 23rd season that seeks to be a well rounded socially, environmentally and economically stable farm. Job description

The Field Crew makes up the backbone and heart of the Organic Redneck farm-ily. At the height of the season, the crew can be an exciting and driving force of up to 8 people. The crew’s primary responsibility is to help maintain the fields and harvest produce that we bring to our customers at our farm stand, farmers markets, crop share program (CSA) and wholesale accounts. This role is an ideal position for someone looking to continue to refine and improve their skills in harvesting and processing fruits and vegetables, as well as all the necessary hand work of the farm. A fast pace and an understanding of ‘production-based’ fruit and vegetable farming are a must.

Responsibilities (5 days/week Mon-Fri)

  • Harvesting, washing, packing and processing up to 12 fruit and vegetable crops in a day 2-3 days per week
  • Transplanting, trellising, pruning and hand cultivating over 50 types of annual vegetables and perennial fruits 2-3 days per week
  • Assistance in other aspects of the farm depending upon the week/season:
  • Seeding and up potting in the greenhouses
  • Packing CSA boxes
  • Pruning/weeding/transplanting perennial fruits including blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries
  • Additional hours at our farmers market and farmstand

Desired Skills & Interest:

  • Physical ability to work for 40+ hours a week on your feet, sometimes on your knees and often in physically awkward positions
  • Ability to work in varying climatic conditions including 90+ degrees or in cold & rainy weather
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • A positive, upbeat attitude while being a team player on a fun loving, yet hard working, field crew
  • Desire to learn production based farming techniques that create a financially viable operation

Schedule:

April or May-October: 32-45 hours/week, depending upon the weather

November-March: Depending upon availability & skills, 16-32 hrs/week

Compensation

$12.50 during 30 day trial period; $13.00/hr after; raises earned every 2,000hr/worked

Lots of good farm produce

Bonus paid at the end of the year, based off farm financial goals being met

Retirement fund with varying contributions in 3rd year of employment

Potentially on-site housing available for rent
