POSITION
The Food Education Fund is looking for a dynamic, organized individual to help establish a food media program for the students of New York City's culinary-focused public high schools. The Food Media Program Manager will be leading the newly created Food Education Fund Food Media program as a part of the Food Education Fund in close partnership with the program team as well as the Executive Director.
In the spring of 2020, the students of FEF created Pass the Spatula Magazine (PTS) highlighting food pioneers of color. The first role of this position will be to lead the creation of the second issue of PTS this year focused on food justice and food insecurity and to be completed in June. Alongside the creation of PTS, the Food Media Program Lead will also lead the creation of the broader food media program for all FEF students starting in the summer of 2021 and continuing from there.
START DATE
As this is a brand-new program with a structure still in formation, we are open to the possibility of either a full-time position or a part-time, freelance position starting March 1, 2021.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Food Media Program will prepare students of Food Education Fund programs to break into the food media world, setting them up for leadership roles in the future. We envision this to be a multi-faceted program involving daily in-school food media classes, after school workshops and clubs, student-led projects, as well as a summer program. The program will incorporate various aspects of the food media world including but not limited to video production, food photography and styling, podcasting, and food writing. Program Lead will also be responsible for bringing in and maintaining relationships with outside food media partners including organizations like the Food Network, Buzzfeed Tasty, VICE Munchies, Bon Appetit, and more.
Program Lead will be responsible for leading the creation of this brand new program alongside the Food Education Fund team, for leading the actual instruction of the program, and for creating a model that will be impactful, sustainable, and relevant for our students.
In addition, this position will also be responsible for running the Food Education Fund social media accounts, incorporating students and alumni in the planning, outreach, and content creation as much as possible.
The above responsibilities represent a general overview of the anticipated responsibilities of this role but are subject to change based on the final structure of the program and the needs of the organization.
