Job description

We're looking for a passionate and hard working individual to lead and oversee all digital marketing and strategy at Local Roots NYC. Candidates must have previous experience in digital marketing across website platforms, email campaigns, and social media platforms. 

 

You will work closely with Local Roots Founder to implement marketing strategies that increase the company’s presence and upsell current and prospective customers. You will leverage your knowledge of sustainable farming and cooking to inspire and educate fellow New Yorkers.  Your creative approach to marketing and storytelling will help Local Roots grow the local food movement, support our small farm partners, and connect NYers with nutrient-dense, flavorful produce. 


As a small and busy business, Local Roots gives you the chance to wear many food-themed hats, from project manager and SEO analyst to social media manager and email campaign guru.
 

Core Responsibilities Include

  • Write and format weekly newsletters to members and our general community usking Klaviyo
  • Write and format product description pages for our website, in additional to making other website updates as needed
  • Manage team of content creators to strategize and execute weekly content across all social platforms.
  • Work closely with the Local Roots team to verify important events and farmer updates throughout the season in an effort to help achieve goals and promote relevant stories for each facet of Local Roots NYC
  • Write and curate all posts on Instagram in addition to maintaining strategic and consistent engagement on this platform
  • Respond to direct messages and comments on Instagram to leverage sales and maintain customer trust and loyalty
  • Track weekly social media and newsletter engagement on platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest, Shopify, Klaviyo, and Youtube and develop marketing strategies targeted towards hitting sales goals
  • Write, design, schedule, and execute content that explains product features and showcases the qualities that make Local Roots unique
  • Build and manage Brand Ambassador partnerships
  • Develop and track the effectiveness of different strategies to grow the Local Roots member base through creative digital marketing and social media content
  • Create and manage weekly, monthly, yearly content marketing calendars that promote all our distribution channels (subscriptions, corporate events, brick and mortar storefront)
  • Photograph produce, food products, events, markets, farm visits, as well as creating cooking/lifestyle or recipe video projects 
  • Attend events and onsite markets as necessary to capture content and tell the LR story
  • Regularly read and track food publications focusing on NYC and monitor food/wellness/sustainability events and potential partners 
  • Engage in outreach to promote events and Local Roots experiences


Required Qualifications

  • At least 2 years experience in the fields of social media, digital marketing, and social media management to grow a business
  • Knowledge and interest in the subjects of local food systems, sustainable agriculture, and cooking
  • Very strong writing and communications skills and an ability to tell compelling stories. We’ll want to know how you’ve elevated social media profiles, increased sales, and formed long term partnerships with like minded brands
  • Experience managing team members to effectively communicate tasks, give feedback, stick to deadlines, and create a positive, collaborative environment
  • Proven record of writing newsletter content that generates sales and clearly articulates the educational aspects of a business
  • Prior record of completing projects with extreme attention to detail and high levels of organization. This includes fact checking, formatting, spelling, and grammar edits.
  • Ability to be a self-starter, initiate projects, keep a detailed task list
  • Work history that includes approaching projects with creative, strategic, budget-friendly ideas and offering recommendations for improvement
  • Demonstrated experience tracking, analyzing, and reporting on project success
  • A good eye for food photography - raw produce and dish photography 
  • An ability to mimic the voice of the Local Roots brand  

Desired Qualifications

  • Filming and video editing skills
  • Experience creating and analyzing the impacts of social media advertisements on platforms like Instagram and Facebook
  • Experience working for businesses that share a similar voice or mission to Local Roots NYC (for example, businesses in the hospitality or food industry)

  • This is a full-time position, 40 hours/week
  • 40-hours Vacation Time and 40-hours Sick Time per year
  • This position receives a weekly Local Roots vegetable share (including five varieties of organic, seasonal vegetables)
  • Employees have access to farm visits and food/ag events, based on availability
  • An additional 20% discount on all Local Roots products is available to employees
  • The office space is in Greenpoint, with events taking place throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn
