MX Morningstar Farm run by partners Max Morningstar and Maria Zordan, is a certified organic vegetable farm in its 8th year of operation. The farm, located outside of Hudson, New York specializes in high quality, diversified produce for its onsite farmstand, CSA, and wholesale operation.

The farm is currently 30 tillable acres, the majority of which is cropped in potatoes, sweet potatoes, storage roots, and winter squash. We believe that managing a farm in a holistic and balanced way improves the flavor and productivity of the food we grow, benefitting our community and society as a whole. Job description Wash Up & Pack House Manager

We are seeking a driven and organized individual to join our vegetable production team! The wash up and pack house manager will be responsible for our postharvest operation, ensuring that all of our produce is washed, packed, and organized efficiently. The wash up and packhouse manager will work independently, manage small groups, and cooperate alongside our harvest manager, farm store manager and production team.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the harvest manager to plan day-to-day order fulfillment
  • Manage all  post-harvest handling (washing & packing) with an eye for quality and cleanliness
  • Keep systems in place or implement new systems that optimize efficiency in the packhouse
  • Manage crew members in the pack-shed and direct workflow as needed 
  • Management of pack-house supply inventory (boxes, liners, supplies etc..)
  • Keep updated harvest records and food safety records in conjunction with the harvest manager
  • Ensure that the pack-house is cleaned at the end of every workday
  • Work with the harvest team regularly, especially in the mornings
  • Participate in  farm related tasks including: greenhouse work, transplanting, harvesting, and marketing (varies by season)

Schedule

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday. 7am-5:30pm + flexibility on late days (8am-4pm in early season)
  • Alternating Saturday work (half-day) every other weekend.
  • 6 days/week for 6-8 weeks in September and October

Qualifications: 

  • 2 or more years of farming experience  with relevant packhouse experience 
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy items; 50lbs+
  • Strong management and communication skills
  • An eye for detail and the ability to multitask
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Willingness to manage crew 
  • Ability to be self motivated and to work independently 

Compensation:

  • $16-$18/hr dependent on experience
  • Free produce from the farm
  • 20% discount at Farm Store
  • 5 unpaid vacation days
 

General Expectations:

  • Our rural location is not accessible by public transportation. For this reason, reliable transportation to and from work is required for all candidates.

  • All employees are encouraged to communicate if they are unclear about the situation, needs, or expectations
