MX Morningstar Farm run by partners Max Morningstar and Maria Zordan, is a certified organic vegetable farm in its 8th year of operation. The farm, located outside of Hudson, New York specializes in high quality, diversified produce for its onsite farmstand, CSA, and wholesale operation.
The farm is currently 30 tillable acres, the majority of which is cropped in potatoes, sweet potatoes, storage roots, and winter squash. We believe that managing a farm in a holistic and balanced way improves the flavor and productivity of the food we grow, benefitting our community and society as a whole. We farm using sustainable practices designed to maintain and build the health of our land long into the future.

Job description Equipment Operator
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person to join our production team! The equipment operator will work closely with farm owner Max and manager Will in the operation of the farm’s tillage, planting, and cultivation equipment. The operator will also assist our harvest team or other projects as needed. Some previous tractor work is required, but we will provide onsite training on our equipment. This position is suitable for both entry-level and more advanced operators with training and responsibility adjusted accordingly.
Responsibilities:
- Transplanting, cultivating, tillage, bed prep, irrigation, and harvest
- Operating 75, 80 & 95 hp tractors with a variety of implements
- Coordinating with farm owner to ensure effective and efficient completion of tasks
- Basic upkeep of machinery; i.e. lubricating grease points, power washing, cleaning of operator station
- Communicating issues with equipment and field conditions with farm owner
- Harvesting produce when machinery operation is not needed
- Participate in farm related tasks including: greenhouse work, transplanting, harvesting, and marketing (varies by season)
Qualifications:
- Basic tractor experience is required including comfort with and knowledge of the basic functionality, controls, and safety of tractor operation
- This is an entry level position designed for someone with beginner level (mowing, bucket work, transplanting, etc) tractor experience and is interested in gaining more experience in operation and maintenance of agricultural equipment. However, more advanced operators are strongly encouraged to apply.
- 2 years of experience on a production farm is required.
- Applicant should be able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly, work in all weather conditions, and have appropriate work gear.
Schedule:
- Monday-Friday, 40-50 hrs/week
- Main season hours are 7am-5:30pm with some weekend work required.
- This is a seasonal position, April-December, with the opportunity to evolve into a year round managerial role.
Compensation:
- $16-$18/hour
