The goat dairy at Hildene Farm (part of Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home in Manchester, Vermont) is looking to expand our small and hard-working team. The current opening is a part-time position, three days a week, in the creamery.

Work in the creamery requires assisting in all aspects of cheesemaking including: cleaning and sanitation, creamery maintenance, taking part in makes, packaging, and caring for cheese as it ages. Applicants should be eager to learn about cheesemaking and able to work both as part of a team and independently. Attention to detail and cleanliness are essential to working in the creamery. Experience with food production or handling is helpful but not required.

Our goat milking season runs from May to late fall at which point we transition to purchasing cow milk from a nearby dairy. The milk is made into artisanal cheese and small batches of soap. The goat dairy is a state-of-the-art facility open to guests to learn about the goats and each step of the cheesemaking process. In addition, the goat dairy is part of Hildene’s larger educational mission and hosts school groups, day camps, and other forms of programming as permitted by social distancing guidelines.

This work is repetitive and physically demanding but rewarding and requires a positive attitude and strong work ethic. All staff members are expected to welcome guests and answer questions as well as work with our large crew of volunteers. Our production schedule shifts with the seasons so flexibility and reliability with scheduling is key. Some early morning starts are required as well.

To prevent contamination, creamery staff are expected to wear designated clothing, footwear, and hair coverings and follow good manufacturing practices. Due to COVID-19, additional health and safety protocols are in place that include temperature checks and contact tracing. All staff must understand and follow these protocols.

Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home, is an Equal Opportunity Employer and welcomes candidates for employment who will contribute to our diversity.
