The Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership (Hurricane) is seeking an experienced Galley Director/Head Cook to fill an IMMEDIATE need for our 2021 island season, through October 15. This island-based position, where all housing and meals are provided, is responsible for the organization and management of the galley and works cohesively with their own staff, the Program Manager, and Island Director to prepare and serve 3 meals a day for an island community averaging 40-60 people. In addition to the daily meals, the Galley Director/Head Cook is expected to plan and execute periodic special event menus for Board of Director or Donor events on Hurricane. The position is responsible for ensuring all health and safety standards and all dietary requirements are met for all meals. Successful candidates must reflect Hurricane’s core mission of leadership and sustainability through positive energy and enthusiasm for sustainable food practices and systems, including thoughtful food purchasing, meal and event preparation, and waste management (e.g., trash, compost, recycling). The Galley Director/Head Cook will work closely with the Island Director and Program Manager to ensure clear communication across the organization around food system management.

NOTE: The compensation listed is for a May 1 start date. The weekly salary is $800/week.
